My NEW Legedary Seat covers installed

So I wanted stock appearing seat covers for my 1970 Dart GT which has the high level interior. I had bought seat covers and door panels for my 1970 Dart Custom 2 door in the past from Legendary and they were great and have lasted well, but I had one problem - This car is going to be a looong distance cruiser and while most of these 2 tone interiors were dark Coachman with light metallic inserts in Derma (see pics of my green interior in my Custom), the black interior was just done in two patterns of Black.

I just couldn't see this driving through the Desert Southwest in August. It turns out that Legendary will make covers for stock seat frames in nearly any color combo you want, so I went in search of metallic silver inserts for the seats and metallic silver door panels. For 25% extra they will do what you want, and they even have a hot press so that they aren't spraying something to make the color, they actually make the grain you need in vinyl the correct color. With discounts during a sale, the price was what a stock set of stuff would have been regularly. The covers are stock configuration and grain, with custom color inserts and matching piping at the seams. I repaired and restored the seat frames, used new bucket seat foam and here are the results. I could not be happier!!! I'll post pics when the interior is all in the car.

Really nice looking seats. Will be a great interior. I will be watching for it. I ordered Interior for a barracuda earlier this month and will be delivered as soon as October. I'll probably be ready for it....

I thought I was going to be ready when my upholstery showed up a couple of months ago. I'm still not ready...
 
Looks great. My dark blue barracuda with black interior might have to spend its summers at moms on Vashon. Its too hot, even in the Bay Area.
 
Very cool. If I can ever find some 71 buckets, I'll put them in my Duster and go this custom route so they can match the rear seat bench upholstery.
 
How many layers of cotton batting in the rear back/top of the bench? Legendarys install video says 3-5. How about for a 66 a body? (Namely a 66 b-cuda)

I also have a set of legendary upholstery that i was supposed to do as a winter project...haven't gotten around to it yet, i did get my headliner installed it isn't that I'm not working it i just haven't gotten to the upholstery yet. its nice to see the different color spin on these interiors. I started out purist, but I have since installed a grant Tuff wheel and I am going sort of my own way with it. In terms of the Tuff wheel and my original package tray didn't have speaker cutouts or slots. That is the two areas I will stray also an aftermarket stereo but 80s period correct with cassette.

Nice. Yup white vinyl, black carpet, and plum crazy on the steel/trim.

Unfortunately the covers took about a year to arrive, dinner hold your breath but it will be worth it

Yeah it took about 300 days to get all the pieces of my interior that I ordered but it all looks like great quality , was well worth the money , I bought a pretty much complete interior thru legendary
 
By the way, if you have an interior item that you wish was reproduced and you have old or damaged versions, it might be worth it to discuss that with someone at Legendary. I have a 70 Swinger that I bought as an original, low mileage car in the mid 1980s. It came with the original factory floor mats in it - heavy rubber with a really thick heel pad (pentastar and part # on the back along with 4 speed cut out directions on the driver's mat). They were slowly deteriorating and we saved them to put in the car at shows, but when you bent them you could see that the ridges were breaking into sections. On a whim at Carlisle I took them to the Legendary tent and asked if they might want to reproduce them. They asked a bunch of questions and then agreed and in return sent me two sets of new mats to use in my cars. When finishing up the GT bucket interior in the pictures, I gave them a ring and was able to get another set in charcoal gray that matched the carpet

in 2004 I needed to replace the original front seat covers in my 2 door 70 Dart custom (see the first picture in this thread). Legendary didn't make them, but after asking for and reviewing photos of my busted originals, they thought they could use them to make a new template, so I stripped them off and shipped them to Legendary, who made me a set to check if they got everything right and now offer them to everybody in all the original colors and grains. They charged me half the cost of a new set for providing the template materials. 3 years later they reproduced the door and rear panels for me even though they were originally only available on 2 door 70 Customs and GTs, and again charged me half for providing a decent set to use as templates. When I did the bucket interior above they made me a set in a non-stock color using the templates from my original Custom panels.

Even if they can't cut you a killer deal like that, you might get what you need when nobody is making it yet.

My dealings with Legendary match yours to a tee... One Item I needed wasn't available, they wanted to produce it but didn't have an original that could be used as a pattern.... I provided the sample & they have been producing that item for over thirty years now...

Second item I wanted an original design set of seat covers in non-stock color & again they hooked me up... I have seats that are like nobody else's, they look great & they've been holding up perfectly....
 
The ledgedary install videos don't quite cover the install for this car but I think I made it work ok.

I did 5 layers of cotton on the rear bench backrest and I think it was too much and made it harder to install. Also for a 66 cuda at least don't forget the metal backing on the folding seat and hog ring the vinyl to the frame (like I did) get it stretched all the way to the back.

Lastly no clue how but try to line up the seems on your rear bench. I didn't and I'm annoyed by the to and bottom being different. All in all not too bad for my first attempt.

Good luck to anyone doing it next, warm up the covers and use a trash bag to reduce the friction between the foam and cover (then pull the trash bag out). The rest is just time consuming it seems.

There is a possibility of popping the lower seat out and sliding it to match the lines. I believe there is some leeway in how the lower mounts.
 
Turn the covers inside out and fold them over the frames. If the seams don't line up, just turn them back inside out, adjust and then fold them back over. If you've got them straight on each side, they'll stay straight as long as you hog ring equally from side to side.
