I should be thankful for my small garage. Seems that I spend more time looking for parts than I do working on my 65 Formula S. I'm in the process of rebuilding my 273 Commando. I have new pistons installed. The new oil pump is installed. Heads are ready to install.
So I installed the oil pump but can't locate the oil pump shaft. I know I can order a new one, but know the old one is there. I had everything together but had some help in the garage cleaning up last weekend.
Do any of you have issues like this or is it just me.

It's just you :poke:

Lol, just yesterday I spent 15 minutes looking for rachet straps in my garage. I just knew I put them beside a hard hat on a shelf.

I found them in my truck where I put them so I wouldn't forget!!

I spent a day looking for my jackstands. Big ones. Looked everywhere. Two days later i found them on my workbench.

What he said ^^^.

OK, I may be lying. I got to the point I labeled every box with parts in it that were awaiting installation. But that doesn't help when you're out of places to put more boxes, so you start putting the small stuff in side a different box that has room in it. Lots of adventures trying to find things for sure.

If it makes you feel better, I spent over an hour the other day looking for the bucket that goes with the mop so I could do the kitchen floors. I looked EVERYWHERE. Multiple times. The GF comes over and finds it in 10 seconds, it's sitting in plain view on the garage floor with a folded-up duffel bag on top of it. :BangHead:

I'd loose my *** if it wasn't attached. Yep, a small garage is easy to get cluttered. Clutter makes for lost and misplaced.

the putting parts that are in small boxes, and putting those smaller boxes into larger boxes that have room is what gets me. i'll spend a whole damn day lookin for that small box of parts!! dammit man, just dammit!!

now where the hell are my sunglasses!!

Oof. Try having a 3-stall garage, and the wife comes out to 'help you organize it'. N0, just NO.. I know where all my piles of junk are..yeah, it needs to be cleaned up.. but I'll do that. I love ya hun, and yeah I know moving those '74 Dart 4dr doors around are a pain... but leave me to move them so I can get the Caravan in here to figure out why the exhaust is knocking. No, just no. :)

Just wait till I get home and take a pic lol. 2500 sq ft of parts n stuff in a 500 sq ft garage....then theres the **** sheds lol.
Lol James, I seem like I'm constantly packing and repacking parts to organize them.
Just started on my 69, so thinning/organizing/chucking/repacking parts. I hoard cardboard n foam like I do parts lol

If the wife helps,no worries. Its in the last place you will look.

My barracuda is spread out between 3 buildings.

Haha. Once upon a time my blushing bride "helped" me organize my toolbox. I was out of town on a business trip, and came back to find out everything had been sorted out by the color of the handle. No, I'm not making that up. Even at that early point in my marriage, I was smart enough to thank her profusely and then leave the mess alone for a while until she forgot about it. Then I did a midnight toolbox-ectomy, reacquainting all the screwdrivers (and everything else) with their brethren, freed from their rainbow-induced purgatory.

I think I’m so organized until l try to find something.
Couldn’t find my sunglasses either so I grabbed an extra pair I had and later that day when I went inside I slipped them up on top of my head and bam there on top of my head were my missing sunglasses

Yup... Same here. Spent 2 evenings looking for a spacer for a Honda mini trail I was fixing up. "Knew" I had it when I painted the rim. Once I ordered a replacement I found the spacer in the back of it van from where I brought it home .

And if you order a new part, the day after it’s delivered you’ll find the old one. Never fails

I also box and label parts then put them in that special place so I can find them. Latest was front end bushings for Demon HDK front end. Yep no luck, I called a Denny did my best woe is me speech tossed in a little begging a small dash of whining and he sent me a replacement set!

I absolutely spend more time looking for parts than i do working on the car. I'll box stuff up , mark the box and loose the whole box. Till I'm looking for something else and find the other stuff. I made an Inventory List but cant find it .

My shop is 100 feet from my house and is 36-28 with above attic. My house garage is 12 foot wide by 31 feet. Being I am single where my game room should be I have parts storage shelves in my basement. Yes I lose stuff, lots of stuff. Stuff everywhere, stuff on top of stuff. Imagine having 2 set of B1 heads, 2 sets of 440-1 heads, 6-7 sets of Edelbrock heads, Chevy heads, 906 heads, multiple sets of rockers for each head, intakes, pistons, rods, cranks, 13-15 blocks. Now what were we talking about. I LOST my train of thought.

My garage will never be big enough, the three car attached I have now just stores my two hotrods and give me a bay to work on stuff in the winter.

And after I close it up from the outside my two Siamese cats go hunting big game grasshoppers in there

All day long, every day.......................................

Glad I'm not alone. Not sure why my wife complains though. I have parts in the den downstairs, my sons bedroom after he moved out. Parts in my 10x12 storage building too. I dissasimbled the 273 just a few weeks ago. Have all of the bolts in small bags. Put the heads and all that should be with them on separate sides of the garage to keep from mixing things up.
I'm off work Wednesday so I'll roll the car outside and start the search again!
I could order a new one, but when I do that the old one shows up before the new one arrives
