I'm in the process of changing out the 273 to a 360 and while the motor is out I'm going to paint the engine bay the same color as the exterior of the car. So everything from the engine bay has been removed along with the 273.

I cleaned all the head bolts, oil pan bolts, intake bolts, etc..... and while doing so I came across a bolt that I cannot remember where it goes. I have separated and zip lock bagged all the bolts and have this one bolt left out by itself. It has a hole all the way through it.

Anyone can jar my memory and tell me where the bolt goes?

Does the bolt have a hole going parallel to the head through the threads? It looks like a brake/fuel distribution block bolt

edit: maybe not, because the head has a hole in it, too.

Thrust plate bolt behind cam gear. For oiling the timing chain.I cant remember
which hole it goes in though.

Do you have any mean-spirited friends that stop by while your working on your car? 8)

It's probably the retainer bolt for the camshaft. It screws into the oil gallery in the block and feeds oil to the timing chain.

It looks like the cam plate bolt.

That's exactly what I think because the cam plate takes four bolts and I have three and one missing? I installed the cam today and can't find but three matching cam plate bolts. That's were I'm trying to install the cam plate. But the other bolts don't have a hole through them and I don't remember ever noticing the hole in that one bolt. I might have misplaced the other matching cam plate bolt but I don't see how because I kept everything together.

It is one of the cam plate bolts. As I rember you can figure it out by looking what is behind the bolt.

Only one has the hole though it. Keith Mopar is right where it goes.

I`ve read of that bolt many times and have yet to come across one or a drip plate. When was that implemented and when did Chrysler discontinue using it?

Upper left as you face the block. Without it no oil to the timing chain. Ugly.

Well almost all early engines used them. The newer thrust plate has groves that allow it to drip. My 64 273 had one, and my dads 318 in a 70 satalite did too.

Obscure bits litke this are what make this site so cool!!!

My 89 360 Roller Block had the gooved thrust plate, with the drip ramp, and only 3 bolts.

Okay , the new improved thrust plate eliminates the need for the holy bolt or the dripper. Thanks for the enlightenment djwhog. As mentioned above it`s learning little things like that, that make FABO and it`s people #1.

You are welcome! I have even seen some with no bolt in the upper left on the same years that have the holley bolt.. Also there is another option that has a tang instead of a bolt too. Most of these are later model well if 75 up is late model right... 8)

Then in the race books they ecen plug the galley holes and run custom mods etc.

I learn a lot too, this is a good site...

I ran across this thread the other day while searching for something else. It got me curious so I went out and checked and my 273 has 4 solid bolts(unless the hole is completely slugded up)and the plate doesn't appear to have a groove. thoughts?
