I read an interesting article on the website autoextreamist about the future of Nascar.
It seems that the domestic mfrs. are having trouble justifying the cost of sponsoring cookie-cutter cars. They are wanting the racecars to be closer to what is being sold to the public. They want better identification that a Dodge is a Dodge, etc. This would also include using fuel injection as well. Mfrs. could only enter a front engined / rear wheel drive type car, no one size fits all.
We could see a Challenger - camaro - mustang shoot out. I don't know what toyota would field, as they don't offer a RWD platform.
Nascar has began to realize, that it has lost its base fan. Why do you think they are going to use a larger restrictor plate, reinstalling the rear spoilers, & allowing bump drafting again. Because it has gotten BORING! TV ratings have continued to fall every year since the COT was released. Nascar has tried the WWF approach, trying to get the fans support a driver instead of the brand of car he is driving. Guess what, some people are still brand loyal & the manufactures know that. Nascar don't want to loose the mfr. dollars, after all, thats why racing got started, my brand is faster than your brand.
