I read an interesting article on the website autoextreamist about the future of Nascar.
It seems that the domestic mfrs. are having trouble justifying the cost of sponsoring cookie-cutter cars. They are wanting the racecars to be closer to what is being sold to the public. They want better identification that a Dodge is a Dodge, etc. This would also include using fuel injection as well. Mfrs. could only enter a front engined / rear wheel drive type car, no one size fits all.
We could see a Challenger - camaro - mustang shoot out. I don't know what toyota would field, as they don't offer a RWD platform.
Nascar has began to realize, that it has lost its base fan. Why do you think they are going to use a larger restrictor plate, reinstalling the rear spoilers, & allowing bump drafting again. Because it has gotten BORING! TV ratings have continued to fall every year since the COT was released. Nascar has tried the WWF approach, trying to get the fans support a driver instead of the brand of car he is driving. Guess what, some people are still brand loyal & the manufactures know that. Nascar don't want to loose the mfr. dollars, after all, thats why racing got started, my brand is faster than your brand.

darrel waltrip is a dipshit other than that i will still watch

So I have no doubts I'll take some sort of heat for this.. but.. I like Nascar, always have.. I agree the COT has kinda killed things for me some.. it just reminds me of CART, or IRL... all the same... single file.. and yes.. boring..lol.. I would like to see a return to a more 'stock' car approach.. will it happen? who knows.. I like watching Nascar though... It has all the things I like, cars (cookie cutters or not), hot girls show up, and theres beer drinking.. LMAO .. and most of all it fills in my Sundays until football season returns!

Supposed end of the world and NASCAR just NOW gets it?! #-o](*,)
I haven't watched since Stock Car racing WAS Stock car racing!!

Ah, the good ole days! They sure don't race um like they used to.

I remember watching them on tv at Daytona Beach in the sand. And
yes, those were Stock cars.

I was born in 78 and really didn't start watching with my dad til I was about 5 or so. The "Days of Thunder" era is the most recent version of the NASCAR days I care to remember!

I'm with you! The COT just plain sucks. I have lost almost all interest since its conception. But then again, I can have a BEER and watch just about anything!!!

You mean there is corporate sponsorship in NASCAR? I scan the results in the Monday papers and they never mention the brand of car the winner was driving. I don't know the drivers, therefore I don't know which car won.
I stopped watching when Chrysler pulled out, I tried watching when Dodge started to race again, but like I said, they never tell me if a Dodge won. So, I never got back into.

Thats the manufactures point! Why participate if they are not going to get anything out of it.

I bet it they aired re-runs of '60's and '70's races, the tv ratings would be higher than with this COT sh*t!

I agree with ya SpeedRacerX. Now it just fills in the background noise while I nap. I have always thought that having FWD cars in Nascar would kill the sport. Last I checked only the Dodge was a RWD car in real life! Get back to stock car racing the old school way. It's million dollar drivers racing for multi- million dollar teams. Very few privateers anymore.

My great uncle told me about the "Good Ole Days" of NASCAR when you could buy on Monday what they raced on Sunday. He actually watched the Superbirds rip'em up and watched the other teams try to 1-up the hemi cars. He was especially fond of the anticipation of going to the track to see who had the best car THIS year.

"Somehow" he'd tell me "You just assumed that every year they'd be making better and better machines and who knew what kind of horspower they'd be throwing around in another 20 years!".

Sadly he has watched it go from watching the factories race their cars against each other to vitrual IROC matches we have now. He called modern NASCAR "Rotary Tennis".

Id sure like to be able to see some of the good ole days myself.

Since about 1980 it has gotten to the point that the 'race' is like watching 40 some fleet trucks running down the interstate into a slight head/crosswind. This truck will be a bit faster for a minute and then another one will be faster. BORING

I'd like to see it go back to the mid 60's. Body in white, run whatabrung.

If you can't buy it you can't race it....:bootysha: Yes I said it last year and the years before :read2: Manufacture the car and sell it to the public :happy10:Then it qualifies to race in NASCAR.... Dodge has the only rear wheel car that we made our come back in 8)
Then they let Chebby and Furd change there front body style to run with us.
Keep the safety equipment but you run the block and body that we have here at home if they want my support again.

The only issue I have with this is that the France family has always been against the manufacturers, considering them a necessary evil. Hence the reason for the cookie-cutter cars. So anything coming from Nascar on behalf of the manufacturers needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Nope, Nascar lost me a long time ago. So did IRL when the "Great American Race" became all Honda.

My dad took us to Daytona in 1971, it was neat to see those STOCK CARS fly around the track. At that time you could still go to the dealer and buy a rendition of the cars that ran the race. The same trip he took us to watch an Apollo mission blast off to the moon. Watching that Saturn V rocket lift into the air as the ground shook was awe inspiring. It gave me a patriotic feeling. I was young and proud to be an American. We were a great country.

I to started watching again when Dodge got back into it. But it is hard to say "Hey that race car with a Dodge sticker on it won!" So I stoped watching a few years ago.

I've long believed the rules in NASCAR should be a bunch simpler than they currently are:
* Currently manufactured rwd cars only with factory sheetmetal dimensions and profiles to start with. Give everybody the same min/max front/rear spoiler dimensions and let the factories put out the most aerodynamic body shape for each make. The public will win too with better gas mileage.
* Basic engine build specs. Give a cubic inch max. limit, max. compression ratio, induction limit - either single 4 bbl with max cfm limit or electronic FI with max injector size.
* Same basic suspension design for all. Don't limit spring and shock rates.
* Same tire size for all. Let the individual tire manufacturers put out the best tire design and compound possible.

Now, let the individual teams develop the best combinations for themselves and LET THEM RACE.
