I don't usually follow NASCAR (sacrilege I know), but am watching Darlington and only seeing three manufactures represented- Ford, Chevy and Toyota. So, when is the last time that Mopar was racing NASCAR? Do I assume that Chrysler is just not interested in NASCAR?

Chrysler pulled out of NASCAR probably about 5 years ago. It's been awhile.
 
Brad Keslowski won the 2012 championship in a Dodge charger and Dodge pulled out shortly after that. there's rumors flying of a possible return in 2022, but it's mere speculation
 
NASCAR bent over backwards chasing Toyotas money and did nothing to keep Chryslers competing, attendance is down IMO they underestimated how many Mopar fans there were/are. I know I haven't watched since Chrysler left.

Yeah, as usual NASCAR bent over backwards to appease someone else, and in the process made Mopar grab their ankles. History just keeps repeating itself.
 
Teams bailed on Chrysler cause of the 2008 collapse, not sure of Chrysler future at the time and if they would continue with the sponsorship.
 
Dodge couldn't come to terms on a new deal with Roger Penske, so Penske went to Ford. Dodge was unable to get a top tier team to come over from another manufacturer, so they pulled the plug. That's the big picture view. There were other contributing factors to be sure.
 
At least Brian France isn’t at the helm anymore. I have watched it for 25 years or more. Hope they can survive.

Repeating itself over and over. Both Wally Parks (NHRA) and Bill France (NASCAR) always had hard ons for Chevy so much that they did everything they could to make sure Chevy won up to and including sanctioning and or down right banning other makes when someone came up with something faster. Chrysler saw years of sanctions and Ford's SOHC 427 has been the only engine ever down right banned right from the rip with NASCAR. They knew Ford was fixin to dominate if they ever had the chance to get out there and work the bugs outta that nine foot long timing chain.
 
Another thing that confuses me is that on occasion I see Dodge NASCAR engines for sale (these are very different dry sump motors). I assume then that these motors are ten years old and assembled from old parts laying around the shop.Thanks for the input guys.
 
It makes me wonder how long the hemi could have ruled pro stock if not penalized out of being competitive. And I stopped watching nascar and nhra about 6 yrs. ago.

I love how the Chevy boys just drool over how "badass" Chevys are and they don't even recognize the fact that had the two largest bodies in the automotive world had not sanctioned everybody else Chevy would have rarely won a thing.

Could be from the truck series. They stayed in that longer I think, but aren't in that any more either.
 
I still have a W8 complete truck engine. I bought it from a land speed racer that had a slew of W8 stuff. There was also a stash of R5/P7 engines up in Vegas from a cup team until a couple years ago so yes, some of that stuff is still laying around after all these years.
 
Good comments I agree with all of them especially rustyratrod, it still happens today in NHRA class racing the minute a Mopar is fast the bow tie babies cry like mad. They can't accept the fact that they spent a zillion dollars on their cookie cutter Chevy and a Mopar is faster. Look what happened in Factory Stock , A Dodge Won Indy and the the Championship sure didn't take long for the Dodges to suddenly be uncompetitive with restrictions did it?

Even in local circle tracks, my cousin was always getting weight penalties over Chevs. All the Chevs were heavily cheated up and cousin would still walk away from them in the straights in a basic build 340.

Yes the SOHC 427 was band from the get go............BUT......it was Chrysler screaming about how unfair it was.....GM was operating on a "No official " involvement in racing at the time

If by screaming you mean developing a DOHC Hemi, you'd be right. It, along with Ford's SOHC, got banned before they ever raced in NASCAR.
To Ford's credit, the SOHC was produced and sold over counter. There were a number of drag cars running then. There are still some out there running nostalgia style events.

I dont watch nascar , or nhra since chrysler pulled out .
The last year they ran , Brad Kesolowski won the championship in a dodge charger.

Chrysler never put the $$ into engine development that chevy ford and toyota does either !
THE DODGE TRUCKS WERE STARTING TO RULE TRUCK RACING when toyota came in a literally bought out all the dodge boys running trucks . Very few if any competitive now .
THE ASSOCIATIONS HAVE TO KEEP THE PEOPLE W/ THE MOST MONEY , HAPPY !! Check back in history , nascar killed the hemi ''back then'' , just like nhra killed the hemi by adding 600# to the prostockers , "mater of recored " , so bill jenkins could beat them. They did it again w/ the rev limits so chevy could dominate , THIS STUFF IS NO SECRET !!

Yeah right , thats what ur were told , g,m has been in it all along, just not broadcasting it , a well know factory racer even admitted they sponsered him secretly , along w/ a bunch of others , altho its been too long and I cant remember their names The cammer was considered illegal beacause of the rule book stating ''no everhead cams.''
Ford was pushing to get legalized , knowing that it wasnt legal to start with .
 
If 80% of the crowd likes to see Chevy win, give 'em a Chevy winner. NASCAR...Not A Single Chrysler At Race....

"...To keep the Winston Cup teams running Mopars in the hunt for one more season, the sanctioning body revised the rules to allow the 1974 Dodge Charger to run for four years instead of the normal three, and Richard Petty, in his ’74 Charger, finished the (1977) season with five wins and a second-place finish in points.." New for Petty '78 Dodge Magnum abortion landed him his only season without a win since '59, but shared that season with the equally bad young Monte Carlo body. Even the King couldn't win with junk.

I wonder if there was a threat of a Petty Boycott, either implied or overt.

Chrysler didn't have a leg to stand on with the hemi to ***** about anything.
