I have a 19inch flat screen monitor the problem is that i can't get sound out of it anymore,it has the speakers built into the bottom corners it used to work good then the other day they quit!
According to the icon on the bottom they are working but there is no sound!
Anybody know anything about these and what might be wrong with it and how to fix it?

Wouldn't that be "the mute is on"
Or do you turn it off to listen

Know I am confused. But My sound works.:happy1:

Sorry 99% of the time its something like that. Mute on the pc or the monitor. Volume turned all the way down somewhere. Rarely do the speakers just quit.
You could look in devise manager for a problem with audio.

Hi Kevin, is the volume icon missing from your system tray by any chance. Do you know how to access device manager? IF so check for an exclamation mark, question mark, or X on the sound, then we can go from there.

By the way do you have volume buttons on the monitor? There should be some there to control the speakers and the volume icon in the system tray will control the volum as well.

When I had this problem, I had sound sometimes but not always - then realized that the media player was muted so I got sound everywhere but when I wanted it...

Found the Device manager but there are no exclamations, question or X's on it.
If i click on the icon it opens and when i have music playing it bounces up and down with the music but there is nothing coming from the speakers.

using the lite green audio out port to rca cables ? Plugged in good ? No static or pops at all ?

Kevin there should be a button on your monitor for volume and an icon in the system tray in the lower right hand corner that you can click on to open the volume control, or you can also access it through the control panel.

I searched all over the entire monitor for a button but can't find one,any idea where it should or would be?
I've clicked on the volume control icon i have it all the way up and like i said it bounces when there should be sound but not getting anything out of the speakers.

just a thought here. try a set of headphones in both ports

Kevin try this, click start, go up to settings and go over and click control panel, then click sounds and audio devices, in the device volume box the mute should not have a check in the box, then click the advance box and all the volume controls should come up , make sure that none of the mute boxes have been checked and play with the sliding controls when you know there is music playing..

It has 4 buttons across the bottom for contrast, color etc.
I found a place in it for the volume turned it all the way up and still nothing. There are no other buttons on it except to turn it on and off.

Well Kevin what I'd do next is go buy a "cheap" set of computer speakers and plug them into the back of the computer and see if you get sound. Failing that the computer sound card may have bitten the dust (never heard of one doing that) which unless you're good at rebuilding computer will need to be done at a computer store.

Hi evilscamp..

1) Make sure the audio is coming out of the PC. Hook up any speaker/headphone that is known working to PC. If sound present then trouble is definitely monitor.

2) If monitor has volume control or setting in the OSD (On Screen Display) menus, ensure it is on, and volume level is up (said you did this)

3) If no sound then problem is LCD.

a) If there is no volume control, then the speaker volume is dictated by the PC, and the speakers are simply wired to the female 3/8" jack. Unlikely that they all broke off, but if LCD female audio plug is loose, or rotates freely this is possible. Only solution is to open LCD (voiding any warranty) and find/solder the connector.

b) If there is a volume control on LCD, then problem is probably the little pre-amp inside the LCD. If it is fried, it may be difficult (if not impossible) to find the correct replacement part. If LCD is on warranty - get an RMA and send it out. If not, the only solution is to either buy small desktop speaker set, or open LCD (again voiding any warranty) and soldering the 3/8" female plug directly to the speakers(bypassing the preamp) and using the PC to control volume.
