So I installed an 8 3/4 3.55 sure grip in a 1966 Dart, behind my slant/ a833 od trans. When launching in 1st, the car hits 4 grand in a few seconds with little distance to show for all of the noise.

In other words, the car is torquey in 1st but the distance traveled from launch to second gear is less than what I had with the 7 1/4 2.92 gear. If that makes any sense.

Clutch is not slipping, brakes not dragging. Just seems like the little 225 needs more rpm's but it just runs out of power around 4 grand. I'm running hei conversion, new 500 edelbrock, adjustable vacuum secondaries( maybe I could play with those). Throttle cable is adjusted correctly.

The only other mopar I have owned was over 30 years ago, 68 coronet 383 auto 4.10, so maybe I'm expecting too much out of the 225.

All considerations in a modest direction will be appreciated.

It is going to be less because of the change from a 2.92 gear to a 3.55 gear. the car gets it's RPM quicker with the 3.55 vs the 2.92. The 3.55 with the OD trans is a great combination for a street/highway car.

Yep, if you research /6 318 you will find guys that want these great little engines to perform like a 340 440 or even 426. And you will find it takes money time and engineering and yes all of the above! The arguments are all over the place but the common denominators are-money-time-engineering. The main point is to have fun

Rear tires are 205/60 15 and new so not changing those. I will research the /6 318 and go from there. For now I'm just daily driving it and enjoying it. Thanks for the tips friends.

It’s a wide-ratio trans, the opposite of a performance transmission. The slant can’t turn enough rpm, or make enough torque to recover from the 1-2 drop.

I'd suggest finding someone who could use/want the OD and sell/swap to get a standard 833.

It will help your 1st gear issue and with the 3.55's give you the tq multiplication you want in 2 thru 4 vs the 2.92.

So supercharge or boost with fuel injection? Or 318/360 magnum swap?
I like the way you think, but the slant can be fun with a 1:1 A833. If I was you I’d either swap in a non od 4 speed, or swap to a 5 speed.

A V8 will make the split more tolerable but that transmission will never be fun, in my opinion, and from my experience running one behind a slant and a small block.
