mt - this is what I did to replace my ashtray. Made a pattern and fabbed up a replacement to hold three power outlets. One day I will have the dash in the car where I can install it!

Well, I left out a bit of the process. In order to have the dash appear "finished", I cut the front edge off the ashtray and welded it to the dash. A little bondo and paint it it looks pretty good. I will try to post a finished pic at some future date.
I also had to weld in a patch panel for the radio, it looked like the po had used a hammer & chisel to cut it larger for a tape player...
