these are the numbers on the block i know its a 318 but i went to bolt up my tranny(036-9x) and the bolt pattern was way off..

2951185-2
2536030 318 . 8
CM318r33732513

Probably first two digits are GM, which would make it a 1971 model year engine.

If my spreadsheet is correct, 3373 = build date of Oct 22, 1970

Ok here are some pics of the motor and my tranny

I see a 318 and SB trans. Should bolt right up. You must have had it twisted or something. There is only 1 bolt pattern for all small blocks.

No, not a wide block, you'd definitely know if it was a wide block....completely different head design w/canted valves.
Was the bolt pattern of the tranny bigger or smaller than the block bolt pattern??

Could this be a wide block? cus it was off by 3/4s of an inch

I wish to hell people would not call these "wide blocks." If you tear down an "LA" and an "A" block to the bare block, you'll have a hard time telling them apart. The heads even almost fit. The rear block pattern is the same. My understanding is that some of the early blocks had different crank patterns.

But the transmission will bolt up, A, or LA, and Magnum

Well you guys are rite the motor was tilted when i was trying to line it up i went back out there and it bolted rite up lol
