I have a 1976 thru 79 318 that I just rebuilt. Which way does the slot in the internediate shaft or oil pump gear point to? One way tells me pointing straight forward and one way tells me pointing towards the front left intaje bolt. Please help.

with engine at TDC no. 1 firing...it should be pointed at the 1st intake bolt hole on the driver side...

with that said...it really does not matter where you point to...as long as the rotor and number 1 on the cap line up....it is just simple to keep it set it up as shown by the factory...and the plug wires work better..

Ok. Thanks

I put mine completely at the wrong orientation just for the flipping heck of it when the new cam went in.
Of course I made the wires to match for length when I made up the wire set.
