Need help w/ rear axle rebuild.

I found a carrier for my 8 1/4 rebuild. Since the current 8 1/4 has 245 gears, I need to replace the carrier with 276 or lower. I found a donor car in a junk yard with the carrier I need. The only problem is the center pin doesnt want to come out. Its the only thing that is holding me up. Does anybody know why the pin doesnt want to move?
 
I just read an article from mopar muscle about the 8 1/4 rebuild. They mentioned removing the pin before the end caps. I removed the end caps before removing the bolt the keeps the pin in. Is this the issue? If I put the caps back on, would the pin come out?
