hi guys

ok i have a 340, j heads, 1406 edl, edl340 intake, mild cam, elec. ignition.
i want to do this from the carb. how many turns on mix screw to begin and what should i set my timing. do i need to plug vacuum when timing. the engine was rebuilt doesn't even have 200 miles on it. can somebody just give me some schooling. i cant figure this out, i am an air head when it comes to this. any info would rely be appreciated. thanks

Set initial around 15 BTDC to start. Then use the starter kickback or vacuum gauge method to dial in where to set initial. I tend to like as much timing as the starter can handle. You'll need to curve the distributor so your total number doesn't go out of bounds, more than about 35-36 degrees.

Don't even bother messing with major carb settings other than idle speed and mixture screws until you have the timing figured out.

If you search there are tons of post about how to set initial timing and total timing here.

Go on eBay and buy the Mopar Action, all the 2013 issues. You'll be well-informed if you park 'em next to the 'bowl.
