I am looking at buying a 1994 dodge Dakota with a V6 automatic with 74000 miles.I am looking to swap the V6 for a 340 I have sitting in the garage.Has anyone done this and is it very difficult to do it. Any pointers as to what I will have to go through to do this swap. Any input appreciated.I sold my daily Driver and now I need something else and this is what I am thinking about doing.

HOW does the width of the engine compartment compare with the width of the 340?

Major concern ...IMO.

They should have the mounts you need. There is a local guy that likes to drop 440's in dakotas with one of their kits.

We are trying to find out if a 92 fullsize truck 318 is the same as a 95 dakota 318 so we can do a swap in our 95 dakota. Bolth motors look the same as for F.I. and all the electrical stuff but we don't know if the 95 stuff will work on the 92 motor.

Actually I have not looked under the hood of a early dakota to see how much room is there but they did come with a V8 from the factory so i would think you could convert one with a V6 to a V8.And Schumacher does show a set of mounts, they are a little pricy but if you need them you need them. Thanks for the information it is very helpful. Now all I need to do is buy the truck and get everything in stock to do the swap.

Thanks

Bobby

There is more than enough room for a V8 in one.

If you run a 727 or a 904 all you should have to do is have the driveshaft resized. If you go with a 518 you may have to get the B&M flexplate or figure something else out. I think that Schumacher also sells headers for Dakota V8 swaps as well but Im not sure, I know I saw them advertised somewhere.

The 95 stuff will swap to the 92 if the electronics aren't right. The 92 should be OK since OBD II didn't kick in until 97. Why do you need swap headers? Couldn't you use headers for your year truck?
