Hi Y'all,

I have 1/8" thick luan plywood, and a sheet of 1/4" thick masonite, need a template for the spare tire board for my 67 barracuda notchback. And a template of the rear seat closeout board for the same car. A dart one seems to be different on the seat closeout board, but the spate tire board should be the same from 67-76 on all A bodies.

I can send a piece of auto body masking paper to anybody who is willing to set their spare tire board or seat closrout panel on it, and carefully trace it out, and send it back. These are fairly cheap to buy, but its the shipping that kills it.

Anybody interested in helping me out on this, please PM me.

Thanks
Matt

I have a 68 dart with the spare tire board. If you send the paper I'll draw it for you no problem. PM me.

Thanks for the response guys. I am sending tracing paper to a gent in oklahoma. I found my divider board for the rear seat. Now i just have to find the material to duplicate that part

I have a 68 notchback with both pieces out of the car. If you still need some help, give me a shout.
I used the 1/8" lauan for the divider, but it may be too thick for the rear seat.

Thanks 68,

I found my divider hidden in the corner of the shop, theres enough of it left to use as a template. I may try hobby lobby for black cardstock if i can get a sheet big enough. I believe there was insulation back there too. My car was half stripped when.i got it, so its like a big jigsaw puzzle for me.

Another gent here on the forum was nice enough to agree to trace out his tire board, as he is redoing his trunk mat, and will have access to the board to remove it and template it for me.

Its so funny that the cost of a pre made one is cheap, but the shipping almost doubles the cost. All that for something originally cut out of masonite.

I cut a tire board out of lauan also. I'm running a 205-65/15 spare, so the board didn't fit very well anyway. My 68 had absolutely no insulation whatsoever between the interior and trunk. I went to Lowe's and bought a roll of the foil insulation. That's what I used for the entire interior. Just use 3M spray adhesive to stick it on.
I didn't want to cut up the original trunk liner so I used shower pan liner. LOL

I thought of using 1/8" hardyboard (hardieboard?) for the divider and tire board. Just ended up using what I had here available.

YEP, you can go to a lot of trouble or expense to replace a spare tire cover only to find it wont lay flat over the spare.
There never was insulation behind the rear seat. The seat back itself should be all the insulation needed there.

Now I just need to decide where to put this freakin' 12" subwoofer.

Put it behind the back seat... :glasses7:

If you can't feel it in your 'taint, it tain't a real stereo.... :D

I plan to run kelsey hayes 15" steelies 7" up front 8" in back. I have a set of 15x8 KH chevy suburban rallye wheels i plan on using the hoops from, and jig welding in the mopar centers. Paint em all body color and add plymouth 67/68 dog dish caps.

Since i am running the larger bolt pattern, I am going to get a donut spare from a late model mustang or crown vic that has roughly the same diameter tire or close to it for my rear tires. It should fit in the spare tire well diameter wise, and should be narrow enough that the cover will fit flat on the trunk floor. Not too concerned with originality on the spare as i am running cordoba brakes, and a 14" wheel will not clear the brakes.

Most people forget these cars came usually with a 14 x 4.5" or 14 x 5" steel rim. Anything wider than this doesnt allow the spare tire cover panel to sit flat against the trunk floor.

Looks really good. I cant wait till my car is to that point yours is at as well. I may prob just use the 1/8" luan plywood like you did, paint the trunk side flat black. I like the insulation idea too. I will look into it.

It just goes in the trunk. Here's what I did in my '68. I have no insulation on the fiberboard between the seat, it might be wise to put some there. It may save from gassing myself when i have to drive with the trunk open.

I keep intending to make an even smaller box and shove it further back, but this one i made works fine. I made the grill cover out of 1/2" pvc board and some time...
