Need some help...side cover installation

Trying to put the side cover back on to a 70-73 833; it's got that funky bar linkage on the inside of the cover; not the nice ball and detente set up.

What's the trick for putting the cover back on??

It's been a while for me but the 1-2 and 3-4 shift forks still just slide into a hole on the cover right? If so put the forks into the shift collars and rotate them towards the top of the trans, them take the side cover and finesse the the fork pegs into the spots on the side cover. Tilt the cover up from the bottom like your trying to lift the side cover from the bottom and look towards the top. VERY IMPORTANT, make sure the trans is in neutral and the side cover shift arms are in the neutral position. I hope this makes sense to you.
