NEUROPATHY

Anyone here have NON DIABETIC NEUROPATHY ?

I do not, but my Uncle does. In one of his feet. He found a special strap type brace that enables him to still drive. Otherwise, he'd have to have given it up. He is 83 now I believe, but his general health is quite good.

I have just been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, but I am a type 2 diabetic. The nerve conduction study was conducted today. I go back in a week. The doctor who did the study said it was treatable. Hope so. Hopefully you will find a similar solution to your problem

The problem my dad has is his feet & up along his shins are numb, no feeling. Also he has great pain in one or two of his toes. His doc says there is nothing he can do. He cant sleep This is a man that I have seen take ALOT of pain. This brings tears to his eyes. He takes what his doc says by heart. I say BS

There is something that can be done. Go to the next doc

It's a Tough thing to watch Your Dad Suffer. Dads are Invincible to a Son and When they are Dealing with pain it's hard to really grasp it. Sorry to hear this Wayne.

Ive tried to get my dad to get a second opinion. His doc told him he would just be wasting his money.

Your dad's doc is 100% correct. There is nothing HE can do.
Telling him to not seek a second opinion is his ego talking, more the reason to go elsewhere.

Every body shop isn't going to agree that a car isn't worth saving, but they all have different resources and experience level.

I agree go to another doctor and find some help and treatment soon. The pain and will just get worse over time. I am not diabetic but I have numbness and tingling tingling in my hands and weakness in my arms. I already can't walk, but that's a different story. I'm only 50 I'm going to have to give up this car hobby soon.

I AGREE, PLEASE GET A SECOND OPINION RIGHT AWAY. THERE IS A DOCTOR OUT THERE THAT CAN HELP YOUR DAD. I JUST WENT THROUGH WATCHING MY MOM DIE OF AN AGANIZING BOUT OF BLOOD POISONING WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED MUCH EARLIER HAD SHE WENT FOR A SECOND OPINION, WHICH SHE WOULD NOT DO, DON'T LET YOUR DAD SUFFER LIKE MY MOTHER DID. EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO GO OUT OF STATE TO A SPECIALIST. THERE IS NO PRICE YOU CAN PUT ON HUMAN LIFE. I WATCHED MY MOM SUFFER FOR FIVE DAYS, A WOMAN THAT NEVER EVER COMPLAINED ABOUT PAIN. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS, I WISH YOUR FATHER ALL THE BEST.

my Dr told me yesterday I have some is putting me on Neurontin

My dad has a thick head if you know what I mean. lol He always does what his doc tells him. He doesn't like going against his docs word. He has been on Gabapentin for a while now. Its not working but he takes it because that's his docs advice.

I'm Diabetic and have it. I hurt all the time .My doctor wishes I was home for this 6 week treatment he says will help me out.I'm on podipn was on a few other vitamins. He's trying not to put me on dope.I don't know exactly where my feet are.I've fallen, bumped stuff, tripped, put my foot on the brake and gas.I can't afford to take off for 6 weeks unless I sell my car.So I'll just keep working till I croak!I'm not one to be on the welfare.

how many guys here cut their teeth in the 80's and 90's on SBMs with carbs?
how many of those guys are 100% content sticking with that, vs learning the ins and outs of fuel injection and the new Gen Hemi's?

Doc's are only human and can eventually get comfortable with believing their base of knowledge is all there is. To a hammer everything looks like a nail. There is nothing wrong with seeking a second opinion. In this era of massive amounts of information readily available, it is foolish to accept the opinion of one man, especially when you are dealing with something that has such a direct role in your quality of life. Your pops needs to keep moving forward, and just may need his son to make the hard decision to kick him in the ***. Good luck brother.

Thanks Im tired of kicking lol & my sister or his brothers don't seem to want to step up. I live with my dad & have helped him with everything, house work, body work, paint & help assemble his mopars. Now I am unable to do all that. Lower spine problems.

Anyone here have NON DIABETIC NEUROPATHY ?

After seeing my family doctor, she suggested I have an EMG done (due to numbness/tingling/pain in my neck/back/shoulder/right arm/hand (thumb, index finger, and middle finger)). Turns out my "neuropathy" is actually a pinched nerve (C7). I'm to start physical therapy on Feb 7th. Both my family doctor and the Neurologist feels this should get me back to normal.

Maybe your dad's pain is also a pinched nerve? 2nd opinion would be 1st thing to do on my list.

There is a saying, "live hard to be hard"

Some guys just slowly grow into dealing with aches and pains from a life of being hard. Hurting and dealing with it is just what they know. It's who they are. I'm on 20yrs in special operations now, and I have seen some very very hard men go full tilt until they crumble. No man lives forever.

Yes! I've been dealing with it for a few years. My legs, and feet are numb all the time. My arms, legs, and my head start burning with the pins and needles when i fall asleep. Had all the brain mri's. spine also. I was put on Gabapenton, then Lyrica. 2 nerve tests. One said i had it in my legs. The second said i was fine. One quack said he refused to treat me, since i went for a second opinion. Another "specialist " told me to use a wrist brace. Another quack got mad when i told him lyrica didn't work. He said just take more. I said what about amitriptyline I used to take for migrains? He said NO! I started using it again. Helped alot. I needed more. So now i take pircocet with it now. My issues are caused by a pinched nerve in my spine. That's why only pain killers help. There's other causes for neuropathy. Including MS. Please get another opinion. Most doctors are egomaniacs. When they couldn't figure out what's wrong, they acted like i was faking.

That's how my dad was. That's how I know he is in great pain.
