yes they do open under cold conditions and the whole time they are open like you said free ride. i believe if you are running multi weight oil it is a non issue of a bypass in cold conditions. running straight sae grade i could see a issue.

this i believe is the reasoning behind 45 micron ? i will know for sure when i can talk to the tech guy on them.

looking up the filter by application i have seen one listing that shows a 22mm thread (seems wrong to me) if it is the standard mopar thread(tend to believe) then no problemo i have one here at the house.
