put a new rebuilt distributor in my 318 a while back and have not been able to run the advance because it caused a bad hesitation. finally got around to working on it and found the advance screw in the canister was screwed all the way in so i backed it out a half a turn and it runs alot better and the hesitation is now gone. is there a base setting like how many turns out the advance screw should be turned or is there a procedure that makes sure its correct. thanks.

here are a couple articles that are pretty decent on how to tune your distribitor for more performance.
