New forum group, Nor-Cal Mopars

I will be attending the Vietnam Veterans car show with Tomswheels purple Autox Valiant. I have been getting it ready for the season of autox, and will hit the Vets show and the Friendship day as they are local shows.

I was thinking about going but I'm not a big fan of Capitol City Mopars. They are very clicky and not real nice to non club members. As a show it's got a very eclectic mix of cars.

Yea but if you don't get there early it gets picked over really fast. They also have a car corral as well.

Yeah, I've heard that about them as well. Last year was my first time at this event and I do have to say I enjoyed the variety as well as the quantity of the cars that were there. Met a few members from here at FABO and got some great ideas for my own build. I mostly go to find the cars that are driven and used by their owners not so much the trailered cars (although I do appreciate them) seems as though those that drive them are the most approachable and just like to open up and honestly talk cars with you.

Got there a bit late last year and the swap meet was still pretty stocked with stuff!

I dropped in on the Saratoga Classic Car Show on Sunday. Pretty nice venue (they sell beer and wine!). If you subtract all the Camaros, Mustangs, tri-5s and Corvettes, they still had probably 100 cars, although Mopars were somewhat scarce (one nice Dart GTS representing A-bodies). I didn't enter because I didn't want to be trapped there all day, and anyway the 'vert was still covered with bugs from my run to Bend, OR last weekend.

On that subject, after putting in 8 quarts of oil on the round trip (could have used 10 but I ran out), I have come to the conclusion that the slanty needs rings in the worst way. As this is my daily driver, I didn't want to take it off the road while going over the whole engine, as it deserves, but a fellow Barracuda owner volunteered a 90K 1968 225 up in Sonoma, "ran when pulled". I'm just trying to figure out how to fetch it. U-Haul at $1/mile is a little pricey starting from the South Bay. My plan was to swap in the 68 motor, using my carb and accessories, after a quick clean-up. The original would be added to the carport decor (along with my 273 Commando) until I had time for a rebuild project, which could be a while. Yeah, I toyed with the idea of dropping in the Commando (which belongs to my fastback, in paint purgatory), but the idea of swapping trannies, motor mounts, linkages, radiator, etc. quickly put me off it.

If you wanna borrow my dodge diesel to go grab it let me know. Just return it with no dents and a full tank of fuel

Ya caught me! Yeah, I was trolling for a truck, all right (or, a lead to a cheaper source than U-Haul). But I'm afraid you aren't exactly on the direct route between Menlo Park and Sonoma. Have I seen your notch at any shows?

^ If that doesn't work out I rented a full size ram from enterprise for something around $65 a day, if I remember right it was unlimited miles too.

Hey, thanks, I didn't think of that. I have some credits with Enterprise...

No problem, another option for local stuff are those rental trucks at home depot. I think they are only around $15 or something for an hour (forget tho). But by far the easiest is enterprise. You get a full 24 hours and no rushing to get it back.

Found this on Craigslist recently.
1973 Plymouth duster
Located in Redding, CA

It's a 1973 Slant 6 Automatic car, looks like original buckets but tore up. body is a bit hammered. Guy is asking $800 but said he would entertain offers. I had my Bro-In-Law stop by and get a few extra pictures since he is only about 15 minutes away from it and I'm about 2 hours away.

Not what I was looking for but I figured some of you guys might be interested so I'm sharing what I have found out.
