New game - what's this part?

Hey folks,

Any idea about what this is? It sits next to my battery.

I think it's a voltage regulator but it looks funny. What are does two wires in the middle?

If it is the regulator, where can I get a replacement?

Should be either on the inner fender next to where the alternator would be or up on the drivers side of the firewall.

Does anybody know where I can get a modern replacement for the regulator? All parts I found in rockauto, classic industries etc don't look anything like mine.

The old voltage regulators were mechanical and the newer ones are electronic.
