My cousin has a sixty New Yorker he is trying to do the brakes on. I havent had a chance to look myself, but he told me that the rear hubs are pressed on. My question is what is the exact procedure, or tools needed to remove the hub and change the shoes. Thanks in advance.

The early 8 3/4s used a tapered axle that was splined to the hub in the brake drums, which were held on with a big nut. You will need to remove the nut and then remove the drum. You can do this by rigging some sort of puller (you can use the wheel studs, they are part of the drum) or tapping on the edge of the drum with a hammer while you rotate the drum. Be prepared for a tedious process whichever way you go.

I just did brakes on a 60 New Yorker(full front suspension as well). Grumpus is right, they are a tapered axle and you need a puller to remove them. I have a special puller that bolts to the lugs and presses on the center of the axle. They come off pretty easily. Dowse with WD40 first.
