Anyone have any experience whatsoever running Nitrous and e-85? I would think that the fuel jets would have to be increased by maybe 33%? 40%? Has anyone done this before?

Interesting question. Haven't heard anything about this. Offhand, I'd say to contact some of the nitrous mfg's.

Thanks Dusterdon! I'll send them a e-mail this weekend and see if I get a response.

Very good question......I'll be interested to see what they have to say ont eh subject as well. That will definetly need to be addressed as the fuel becomes more prevalant. A few companies have E-85 specific carbs out on the market so it's only a matter of time for a E-85 nitrous kit or at least an E-85 jetting map.

Dusterb:

I'll post any responses I get. I have no idea if this is even possible, but 105 octane for under 3 bucks a gallon sounds great to me, even if I use 30% to 40% more fuel.

I agree.....I'm sure it cn be used it's just a matter of getting a safe tune and a jetting map. I'm all for it as I just paid $6.40 a gallon for 110 to mix with 93 pump for the track this weekend. Although I haven't seen E-85 for sale anywhere locally here in Ohio.

We've done NOS and Alcohol and it works great, which is better than E-85 and NOS, as the Alcohol is pure and not 85% with a mix.

Boy with the alcohol you get even more intake charge cooling. Is there a percentage or any rule of thumb to up the fuel jetting for the change?

Thanks for the info BJR! I agree that straight methanol would be ideal, but this car will be used on the street every now and again. Here in Colorado, E-85 is becoming more readily availible and I have a station that sells it less than 3 miles away from me so that's the route I'd like to go. IIRC they're supposed to have 80 stations open here by the end of 2008.

I would imagine that the nitrous system you speak of (if it's on the monster in your avatar) would be of the multi-stage direct port injected style? Did the manufacturer supply you with the jetting information?

Thanks again!

Ramcharger......have you seen Quickfuel's E-85 jetted carbs?

http://www.quickfueltechnology.com/home_2.htm

It's under the speciality carbs section

You betcha. LOL! I think I first saw the ad in Hot Rod a few months back, then went right to the web site. It would be nice if they would offer that carb in a 800 or 850 cfm version. More suitable I think for a serious strip/street Mopar small block stroker. I have a carb base plate on order from them for 650 double pumper thats going on my truck. The quality of their stuff looks great, but I'll know more once I actually have it in my hands next week. If you want, I'll let you know what I think about it.

Scroll about halfway down the page and be ready to get excited.

I've used some quickfuel parts and they are definetly high quality and very nice.....I've also used some AED stuff and it's just as good if not better. Might wanna call Jessie Bigs and Bigs performance and see if he does anything with E-85 yet.

=P~ Wow! Nice stuff. I was not familiar with this company or their products. Thanks for the tip!

AED is very good to deal with and they make really nice stuff.....If i need a rebuild kit for a Holley I get it from them. They have the most complete and nicest kits out there IMO.

No actually it was on a 482 BBC in a Ford mustang and we did this about 5years ago, the car in the avatar is on pure methanol only. PM me and I'll give you the info as to what we did as he was the 6.00 champ for 2 years then I pulled my stuff and he made over $100,000.00 in those years, racing in Ga., Tn., Al., and Fla., and NC, SC..
The setup should be close to what we had then, it will be a safe setup and should work great.

I may just buy one of their kits as it looks complete. No running out to grab something the local checker/autozone may or may not have.

BTW, have you thought about running a separate 5 gal. fuel cell and fuel system for your N20 kit? I would think that it would add quite a bit of tuneability/relability in regards to fuel pressure and save you some money as you would only have to fill the small tank with the high octane stuff or E-85.

Yeah I have.....and I will once I start running a bigger shot.....but my 318 likes the 110 stuff when I am running NA because I can run 34* total timing when i am at the track. I only fill up with 110 when I know I am gonna be going to the track and spraying the car.....any other time I run pump 93 and keep the timing to 30* total. So it's not like I run the 110 all the time so it's not that expensive....and honestly this is the first time I have run the 110 in the car all my previous passes have been made with pump 93 in the tank and the nitrous kit using pump 93 as well.......I just filled her up with 110 the other day to see what it would do and it ran better with the 110 @ 30* of timing and when I bumped it to 32* it ran even better on the street......and the nitrous kit should like the 110 even better but I'll know that for sure here in a week or so when I can get back out to the track to test it out.

Just curious, how much compression are you running and how big of a shot are you using?

9.5:1 CR and I have no more than a 100hp shot so far. That got me the 11.85 @ 117mph with the little 318.

Not bad for what it is......it could be a lot better. If I knew then what I know now.....it's got crappy TRW forged pistons down in the hole...that's why it likes the 110 race fuel with the lower compression cause the bad quench. It was the first motor I ever built but I can't complain. If I did it over again I'd have flat top KB hypers and about 10.5-11:1 CR with a bigger cam and be running high 12's NA and bottom 11's if not high 10's with a 200 shot.

Are you presently using open or closed chamber heads? It's hard to get good quench on the open chamber heads due to the lack of a quench pad no matter what you do. Some is better than none though, LOL!

If was to do my Ramcharger motor again, the one in my avatar, although I did have the deck milled for zero clearance, I would have went with either the Magnum heads or the Edlebrock Magnum head. Cheaper adjustable valvetrain, oil through push rods and much more quench area. I wouldn't doubt if they flow better too untouched compared to untouched J-Heads.

I'm using stock out of the box Eddy heads....the TRW pistons are .030 in the hole and with the MP thin gaskets I've got around .050 of quench area.
