No heater at all ??

Do you need an insurance inspection or am out of province?

Insurance inspection= easy peasy
Out of province = not so much
Just an insurance inspection. Bought it in Edmonton and it has been previously registered in AB. I did a lien and accident search (best as can be done for that age) and it came back clean..

Without a defrost/defog I doubt that it would pass a safety inspection.
Where ya from boy!!???? Eastern Canada!!???

I have run plenty here in S E Tx (wimps here thunk AC is a necessity!) and even back in Missouri too without heater. Yea back in Mo. the early AM dew could be an issue, but I can also roll down a window.:BangHead:

New heater cores cost $$ and many don't even fit! I'm not cheap! just frugal!!!

Not saying that you can't or shouldn't do it........It just won't pass a safety inspection here in Ontario without a properly working system.

Absolutely........They changed it for a reason.

Personally, I wouldn't stake my name or reputation on anything less than perfect (but $500 cash is a motivator for some)......If I couldn't defend my actions at an inquest, it was probably wrong in the first place.
Like I said...I am not cutting corners or anything. I am comfortable it will pass any inspection it needed to when I am finished. I wouldn't ask my mechanic friends to lie for me, but if they will do the inspection for $50 in my garage and its solid for insurance purposes, why would I bother paying more at a shop to get the exact same thing?

I agree with you 100%

Insurance inspections are ultra generic in alberta. Anyone with a mechanics licence can do one. I’ve got friends with a licence and $35 bottle of whiskey can get those done.

Out of,province are sticky now though. Lots of licensing on the line and government forms etc…. Much different beats

Given my current driving plans for it, I doubt there will ever be a driving scenario I will be in that fogged windows will be a concern. Never say never I suppose, but since it is a convertible I think I have an option for defogging if it ever does happen
i haven't driven my convert with the top up yet ,but have turned the heat on
i seen a dart for sale from hawii no heat/a/c ..doesn't it get cold up there..

It most definitely does But I won't be driving it all year....this is a late spring, summer, early fall, sunny day only type of car. Worse comes to worse the top is up and the windows are cracked for some airflow.

on a cool day a little heat on the feet goes a long way
on a hot day those trap doors work well
but it does clean up the under hood without the fan and hoses
do they make a block-off plate for delete cars ?

I owned a 61 Plymouth Belvedere with heater delete, I don't think safety standards that required defrost function came into effect until 68 in the US, Canada may be different.

There were times....... but....... now days a pickup is always a four door, ultra $$$ soccer mom SUV type of thing. Burbs mo-bile. Commuter ride for the city exec!! A low option one would not have heated seats!!!
All those decades ago, there were pickups with the smallest of l6 motors, manual steer, brakes, No radio OR heater much less AC! Step side simple because it was cheapest. Nothing cool about it!!! Spare was extra! Most farm truck back then were green, but probably cost as much as any color!! :BangHead:

Same for the low $$$ auto back then. If you lived in the deep South rural type, many cars had NO heater, some had no radio either. Yes the low $ models, not the high $ models!!! :steering::steering:

Last no heater, no radio car I had was a 64 Ply Savoy. Originally a slant, 3 on tree. I did all the body/paint and sold it 3-4 years ago to a guy for a hemi or MX clone thing.

Texas just got smart and eliminated safety checks except for commercial vehicles!! ha
I hate the idea of "safety inspection" it's bad enough to have to get a smog check.

One of my criteria for moving to a different state is fo they require safety inspections

Texas DL. The real ones and the fake ones. TV was broadcasting PCRA rodeo in English and Spanish other night!!! Damn it all! :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

did early 60s cars in the US run a heater where the motor was parallel to the bulkhead and all inside the car. i.e no bulkhead hole?
they did in Australia....hence Performance cars in the 70s still used the mid 60s heater to make more space in the engine bay

if the heater in question exists in the US i'd be using one of them...

flat bulkhead and noisy internal fan motor totally contained inside the heater box under the dash

or look up MINI electric heater for car on Ali express. grey box with 3 hair dryer elements in it and 2 PC fans. sucks about 8 amps but does the job

Man, you guys in Canada, it must suck to own a classic car or just a beater.
They don’t care if it’s a beater. It just has to be safe. I don’t mind them wanting demanding safety checks, it’s keeps the other dangerous crap off the road that will crash into me and thus keep insurance rates down for everyone. The don’t ask for it every year. It’s just if a car has been of the road for a long time and/or if it’s out of province/state

Good that we have no more safety inspecti0ns here in Texas not Canada! $12 pissed down a rabbit hole. I can tell if my wiper blades need replacing and but them cheaper also down the road!!!! :BangHead:

Can have balled tires no brakes front end falling out as long as your not polluting
