I have been running the only off the battery, and finally hood up the alternator. The ran for a second and when I went to restart I had no power. I have power up to the starter relay. Where do I begin to look?

Ok after letting the car sit for an hour. It will start again, but after running a few minutes it would not restart. same problem no power.
Any ideas? Any one?

When you have the no start condition, use a test light, ground to the battery and place the probe on the terminal of the small wire going to the starter. Have someone turn the key to the crank position, if the light lights up, you have a bad solenoid in the starter. If it doesn't, check for a bad ignition switch.
