Ok, this is weird, At the track today this is the sixth pass I have made. When I do my burnout there is almost no smoke. Im reving to 6000 rpm 3rd gear auto on line lock I get some vibes coming out of rear during burnout. I wanted to film but that didnt workout. My wife watched me during burnout and said my right rear tire wasnt moving. I was told it has a spool I am doughtful now. Im thinking its got a bad suregrip. Problem is when I got home and spun the tires by hand it feels locked. I am wondering what the symtoms would be if it was a bad suregrip. Any thoughts. Tommorrow Im tearing it apart to find out whats really in there.

If it is a sure grip within, it sounds bad, but off set weight could be the issue.
The car is level right?

Slicks are 29.5x12 I am running 10-11 psi weight seems okay. stil pulls a 1.66 sixty foot. Its strange.

thats not a bad 60 footer, yea i have a spool and one wheel spins more, going to go through my dana after racing season, but you might have hard tires, not out of the water or something, still should have some smoke,do you start out in 2nd and go to 3rd on your burnout like your supose to do or leave it in 1st,my 60 footers is 1.43-1.46 on the trans brake

if one wheel spins more than the other with a spool something is broken

And you'd drive it into a wall!

not so

a spool just connects and locks both right and left axles together giving both rear wheels full power all the time

if the splines stripped out on one side it would just act similar to an open end rear giving power to only the other side wheel

Im not sure if there is a spool or sure grip. I have a coan 5000 stall convertor Im wondering if the burnout is the same with a 5000 stall as say a 3500 convertor. I start in second shift up to third release the lock roll out. I feel a shudder or vibe in third when doing the burnout. Just dont see smoke in the goodyears.

If it's a sure grip and only one wheel is spinning, your sure grip is bad.

If it's a spool and only one wheel is spinning something is broke stripped or otherwise screwed.

The common denominator being....... Something is broke.

Fix that, then you can move onto why you don't have a smokey burn-out.

And like Caferacerx said..... Spool + unequal wheel speed = something is broken. You have zero slip with a spool.

sounds like you have a sure grip that needs rebuilding
as far as tire smoke goes, even if only one wheel is spinning, with enough heat you should get smoke, if the tire is still wet when your done, there is not enough heat because you are still in the water

Well i just did a torque test with one wheel on ground and i cant get the tire to move so maybe there is a spool in there. The slicks are goodyears D5 I think they are fairly hard. with a 340 5200 stall convertor 4.88 gears is it still possible that they arent smoking because an 8-10 second burnout in 2-3 gear isnt heating them. Ive never had this problem with other tires.

d-5 i think is medium hardness, same as my 28x13.50 et streets :burnout:

Ok so say I have a spool how come I cant get enough heat to smoke the tires. My burnout is 8-10 sec 2nd to 3rd gear. By the way thanks for all the input.

well i would put a fat stripe on the tire (or color in the name) so you can see if they are both turning...

there are hard street tires and a little water. takes a little bit but maybe you just need a little more time in the box...

are the tires old?

X3 on this,And if your doing a therd gear burn out you must have a hell of a motor.and if you are the shutering your felling is more than likly the therd geare cluches screming for sum relef:violent1:..............Artie

"My wife watched me during burnout and said my right rear tire wasnt moving."

Focus on the real problem.

But... If they aren't smokin:

You are not getting them hot enough.

or

It's the compound and just the nature of the tire.

Spin them faster and dryer, if they don't smoke then, they never will.

You could also call the Goodyear Teck line and ask..

Don't know about the smoke, but I'd suggest starting the burnout in second into third and save your engine.................. imo.

adjust outside mirro so you can see slick on your side. pull into the water box and out to where there is no water(this is important). set line loc, put into 2nd gear, snap peddle to floor quickly, pull into 3rd gear right away, watch tach, keep it at 6000rpm. look into mirro and wait until you see smoke(if you don't see any, stop and go home, fine and fix the problem). release line loc, let tires pull you out just a little, let off peddle. go straight to line and put top/prestage light on. wait for opponent to do same. put bottom/stage light on and get ready. this is the proper way to do a burn-out according to many drag racers.

I,d say your tires are spinning on the rims.Use some white shoe polish on tire and rim to see if they move.I,m still having a hard time understanding your 1.66 60fts with no smoke from burnout?:wack:

I do my burnouts exactly as said above by BoB Shingler.

Who needs a burnout? If you going to do one at least keep it small. Here is a mild burnout we did at my buddy's house.

I do my burnout just as Bob Shingler states. I dont have outside mirror, Ill get one. Rims are screwed so I dont think there spinning. I think this may be getting blown over board. It appears from a bad photo I did get alittle smoke so there is some heat. this is a 340 auto with 4.88 5200 convertor 29x12 goodyear slicks. I was just at Sac drag strip when this happened as a matter of fact its the only place ive run it. I will pull further up than what the water guy wants and try again at a tnt. I
