no turning signals

The turning signals in my 74 Duster just went out all of the sudden. The fuse blew and replaced it with a new but still blew. Determined that there is a short in the circuit. After checking, disconnecting the rear wiring harness and front wiring harness started investigating under the dash. Have found no obvious shorts. Then disconnected the plug coming out from the steering column so power was going into the column and still had a short. Does that mean the short is in the turn signal switch? Any other possibilities? Thanks

If you disconected the harness going up the stearing column I don't think it could be the directional switch, brake lights and directionals are on the same cicuit and bulb filiments. try looking at the brake wiring
