Noisey Lifter

-
@Oldmanmopar thank you for the info and very interesting videos. The first lifter I pulled out had no indication of wear so I hope the cam is fine. My next step is to check and see if it's getting oil and prior to that I will move the lifter back and forth to see if we have bore ware. Thanks again!

An update. Removed valve cover, removed lifter. Lifter mating surfaçe to cam lobe looked good, cam lobe looked good. Removed distributor and spun oil pump. Lifter cylinder was receiving oil. Broke down and bought another lifter. Installed and put everything back together crossed my fingers and started her up. Lifter pumped up and quiet. I am chalking it up to a bad new lifter. Really getting tired of Chinese junk. Thanks to all for your suggestions and input.

Best way to avoid junk lifters is to have 25 yr old [ stock or aftermarket ] or older......re-faced.

And just how does the average Joe determine if the lifter is good quality....or bad quality? Seems all the popular cam companies have had lifter failures in recent years.

We had the same problem with a 340 build. Several sets of lifters later for the customer and still ticks. Found the new lifter diameter was smaller. This combined with worn lifter bores created low pressure to the lifter.

Now we check every lifter and bush the block on many if worn. Most are worn. These engines are 50 years old. We have been buying old mopar performance cam kits for the lifter. Even if we don't use that cam we use the lifters. Mopar and Pontiac all take the same Hyd. lifter

How does a Pontiac lifter that measures .842 diameter fit a Chrysler that has a .904 lifter?

You didn’t say, but I hope you broke that one new lifter in like you would have a new cam and lifters.
