My nephew just bought a 66 Dodge Coronet 4-door with what we thought was a 383 but after some research on the car turns out its a 361.My question is is that a big block ? The distributor is in the front which leads me to believe it is a b/b.Also is it considered a rare engine because i've never heard of a 361. The car is all original and only has 20178.7 miles on it and you can tell.Any help would be greatly appreciated, and since its not a 383 he wants to sell it for what he paid ($4500)THANKS ALOT

the 361 is a big block... it was in the low deck family with the 383, and 400

the 361 had a bore of 4.13" and a stroke of 3.375"
for 1966 it was 9.0 :1 compression with 265 hp @ 4400prm
stromberg 2 barrel carb was all that was available on it.

for comparison a 66 383 had a bore of 4.25" and 270 hp and 9.2:1 compression with the 2 barrel

If the distributor is in the front wouldnt it be a 318 poly?

id keep the 361 but dont drop any money on it. if it needs any major work just get a 383 or a 400. Any intake/exhaust/head work will be ok because it can be transfered to a 383.
