As many of you know I have been having serious issues getting my 318 to seal. It kept leaking around the head gaskets no matter what. So we decided to start over from scratch. Anyway with the help of a local Mopar man (and board member) I finally picked up a 360 block. So I am looking for build ideas. What I am looking for is a good build up that requires very minimal machining. I think we are going to go with new pistons, a new cam, and set of Edelbrock heads. That is unless I can find a set of COMPLETE iron heads close to home that are GUARANTEED not to have cracks or leaks.

So what do you all think. This is going in a 71 Dart. It will have A/C, power steering and power brakes and an automatic transmission. I am not looking for 12's or anything like that. I mainly want a good strong motor that is respectable.

I am not wanting anything elaborate for this car. I still have a 340 or 360 planned for the next project (my 70 FJ5 green Duster). I want something like a stroker motor for that car. It came from the factory without power steering, power brakes, or A/C. So I am thinking a 408 with Edelbrocks for that car. Then maybe a 340 or 440 for my 73 Cuda. But first I want to get my Dart back on the road :( And I better not spend big $$$ on the motor for it if I want to start on the Duster anytime soon. :(

If you can get a reputable machine shop to check them over I'd save $1200 and go with the iron heads. Some cast or KB pistons will be fine too. Stick it at 9.5 or so compression and maybe use some ARP rod bolts but honestly guys ran stock bolts for 30+ years with no problems so...

Yeah refresh that bottom end, cam it, intake, carb, alittle head work and exhaust (can do headers but dang are they a PITA and really manifolds will take you into the 13's easily). Save your $ here for the next engine IMHO.

Do any of the Mopar "speed shops" sell iron heads?? I don't want Magnum style.

The only ones I have seen advertised is AeroHead???

Here is a picture of the Dart. Nothing special that is why I don't want to spend a pile of cash on this motor.

Hey, you DO know that Phil Taylor (Fellow Cowtown member) does good head work. He should be able to mag and build some nice SB heads for you.

Shoot me a PM and I'll get you his phone number.

BTW - I've got a nice little 9:1 360 with small valve heads, and it runs real strong.

Well super Dart beat me to what I was going to say.
Nice and mild.... no problem, 9.0-1 and stock heads with a small cam to match gear ratio and converter to run 13's all day. Stock heads can grant you that.

Yup..what they said. BJR here also does a lot of stock head based buildups, I'm sure he could help you too.
