We recently purchased a 1965 Barracuda with a Slant 6 225 engine. How do I figure out if it is a "numbers matching" engine and trans? Also, is there a way to determine if this is the original power plant of the car? Thank you!

Vin stamping on engines and trannys started in 68' not sure you can positively
determine if its the original engine and tranny other than date coding. The engine should have a 64' year casting to at least have a chance of being the original.

Welcome to FABO Bob!! As stated above, there are no numbers on the motor that would show the vin of the car until 68 so the casting date is your best bet. Any casting date before your cars scheduled build date is a pretty decent bet, with a usual predate of 3 weeks to 3 months being about normal!! Geof

To: cudascott and cosgig geof, thank you for responding. Being admittedly ignorant, where will I find the casting date on the engine and will it also be on the tranny and if so, where?
