oil filter/ex manifold interference Q

63 dart stock car 360 with magnum ex manifolds. mocking up on the pass side useing the threaded center nipple/flat plate then the filter, at one point the ex manifold outlet flange is 1/4" away from the filter body. will this overheat the oil? I could use the 90 adapter if need be but I'd like to stay with the other setup if I can. (its congested down there). what do you guys think? & thank you for your time.

are you using a short oil filter like Wix 51085 (3.66 inch) or Napa 1085 short oil filter (3.836 inch) or Napa Gold 1215 (3.404 inch). These will all work.

Is the filter screwed to the block or are you using the factory right angle adapter?

I mocked up the manifold/flat plate/nipple & the filter on a seperate engine cuz I wanted to go that route if I could for the simplicity & that's when I got the 1/4" clearance. I do have the 90 deg adapter/bolt & the 3 piece gasket set but I'd like to go with the plate/nipple. EDIT the filter was a long one

it is tight but I could go with either one. the only caveat on the 90 deg one is to duplicate the "angle" of it that it is at right now on the mockup eng cuz I cant install the ex manifold on the in the car engine till I cut the inner fenders out which needed to be done anyway including some of the fender area at the UCA mounting points which is the manifold interference area. On the flat plate/nipple do you use any gaskets on either side of the nipple? If I go with the plate & I likely will I will drill some extra holes in the plate for more flow.
 
There are several small diameter oil filters you can use. As long as the internal thread is the same and the seal is the right diameter they work fine. I ran a 340 in a drag car for years that way. I’ll get some filter numbers for you and post them. I never liked the sharp turns in the right angle adapter. Bolting directly to the block is best, I used the small filters for header clearance.
I also doubled the amount of holes in the plate for better flow.

There is another one that is small diameter but long, may be for a VW. I don’t know the numbers. You can also cross reference these if you prefer another brand.
