Oil filters....which one to use?

Okay , the oil topic has been discussed at length on the forums here, what about oil filters? There`s a million different types, brands, and performance levels. What do you use and/or consider the best?
 
Wix (napa) and Baldwin filters are good filters. I would stay away from Fram filters. I have seen three motor failures from Fram filters.

Wix makes about 90% of them, most major brands, but they are made to the specs (Fram,Lee,purolator,etc,etc) of the name on the filter. There are differences in them as to what type of paper is used to how the check valve is positioned, and how many pleats are folded.

As to which is the best I'd say Oberg.
 
I use K&N, its a bit more than the Napa's but I would think its made good and strong.

Even for your everyday cars you need to watch out. Some the case is so thin, its very easy to poke a tiny hole while tightening the filter with a warp around wench.

Hint...the A/C filter did that to me, they used to be made good, not any more.
 
Purolator and Fram are not made by WIX.
Fram makes their own, Purolator makes their own.

I second 340srule, since I also use Mobil 1 filters in all of my vehicles. Did some fairly extensive research on the web and it looked to me like the Mobil 1 filters were the best. They're more pricey than normal but, as with most things, you get what you pay for.
Use to believe in Fram, but now think Fram needs to change their catchphrase to 'You can pay me now and then pay someone else later'.

I agree. I did an oil change on my car, and not having an Amsoil or Wix filter I used a Fram. When I started the car I had zero oil pressure and immediately shut it off. I went and got a Wix, put it on, and what do you know. Oil pressure.

When I worked for Yellow freight system in Charlotte, NC. we frequently recieved trailer loads of filters from Wix from Gastonia, NC and I would say that at that time they had over 20 brands of filters that they made. And both purolator and fram filters were on the trailers, along with A/C, Mopar, motorcraft, Lee and others. I cant remember them all as this was 30 years ago, and a time I would rather forget.
 
Mopar.... If they are good enough for their warranty protected vehicles , they are good enough for me.... Plus I like the way they look .....

totaly agreed I hand them out all day long. they seem to be good quality, also I dont know if this matters but they are made by mobil dont know whitch line of mobil. the only thing I dont like is how they dont make a longer filter equivelent to the fram ph8a's but the 5281090 filters are still good in my book
 
Oil filters are like toilet paper.......the more paper you have the better cleaning it does! In fact, remember in the 1970's the rage was to install toilet paper oil filters. My cousin had one on his 383 Magnum 'Cuda and it worked very well. The oil was always crystal clear and every 2,000 miles you changed the toilet paper and added a quart of new oil.

Always heard good things about Wix filters

Have a K&N on my Slant 6 car.

Had the black Mopar Performance filter on my 318.

Have heard Fram filters suck,then I have heard people who use nothing but a Fram for years,with no problems.

Anybody use the Fram HP series HP1 filter ?
 
make it five engine failures! fram filters took the life out of my dodge rams 318 it was a solid motor, could eat mustangs for breakfast, after using fram filter that didn't line up very good truck pissed oil out of everywhere gaskets,intake and even oil dipstick hole
 
I use wix,and I personally know of two fram filters failing and taking the engine out.
