I have a new Mopar 360 magnum crate. It has been in the car about 4 months, runs good, sounds good. It has about 500 miles on it and I have changed the oil once since install. It doesn't smoke and there are no oil leaks but I have had to add a qt. and a 1/2 of oil to it a couple of days ago.

I am puzzled. Is there something I should check our am I worrying about nothing?

I would do a compression check and a leakdown check and see what you come up with just to be on the safe side.

Are you absolutly sure you added the correct amount of oil when you changed it?

X2 and did you factor in the oil filter(s)? Just a thought....

Yeah, I would get it to register correct today and watch it closely.
More than 1/2 quart consumption per 1000 miles is cause for concern.
Then again the dipstick and/or tube length may be wrong.
Might be best to just drain it and start from scratch.
Fill it to proper volume and check the measuring stick.

I am fairly sure I addded the right amount of oil. 5.1 quarts with the filter?

I believe I did. I checked the dip stick and it showed filled.

That is probably the best place to start but what is the correct amount of oil? In the 318 it was 4.5 quarts with the filter, what is it with the 360 magnum? Also if the dipstick is to short and I fill it up till it shows full won't that actually be over filled? What is the right amount of oil for a 360 magnum?

What type oil pan it wears would be the determining factor.
Which oil filter would make a slight difference too.
A slight overfill wont hurt near as much as underfilled.

Personally , I dont play at 1/2 quart in my 273. I run a medium length ( Wix 51085 ) oil filter, pour in the full 5 quarts and adjusted the measuring stick to that.
