The oil light on my 66 signet stays on when running. I’ve changed the sender a couple of times, and have traced the wire, no breaks in the wire. Oil is full, no problems with the engine, so I just drive it that way.
Congrats on being not only the first person to respond, but also being damn near the only person in the whole damned thread to get this....Check the wire going to the oil switch. It's probably grounded somewhere, although it should go out when the key is switched off.

OK, proper oil light operation! Like RRR said, the light should ONLY come on when the key is on, motor is off (or, ugh, if you lose oil pressure for some reason).
The light should go OUT when you start the car (within 2-3 seconds) and STAY out until you shut the car off (or lose oil pressure).
When I worked on Harley's, the Twincams often had oil lights that wouldn't come on when the key was on, engine off. You started the bike, and the oil light would flash and go back out. That was a bad sending unit, and replacement always restored order.
In the OP's case, I would NOT call this fixed until you find out WHY the oil light had key-off power. Just because it stopped for now does NOT mean it is fixed (unless you did something that fixed it).
Lift, you say? Hmmm...you're not that far from me....I agree. I replaced the oil sending unit a few months ago as it was leaking. The car is leaking again but I don't think it's oil as the dip stick reads full. Going to put up on a lift tomorrow and see what's going on. Thanks for your help.
