Oil Pan Removal ??

Hi,

66 Valaint 273.
Can the oil pan be removed in the car?
I have the exhaust off and was thinkning of fixing an oil leak at the pan gasket. I,m not sure if it will clear the K member.

Yes. It's pretty tight, but you can do it.

I've done one on a slant 6 in a 65. The V8 has to be easier.

yeah, but is the leak at the timing cover, or the rear main?

I did'nt think about it but it might be the rear main seal.
When I look up at the rear of the oil pan between the trany and engine its wet with oil. I just thought it would be the oil pan gasket at the back.

My rear main has a slow oil leak and I am not looking forward to replacing it but I have to do it. If I change my oil about every 500 miles before it loses its viscosity then it doesnt leak. So 66Valiant If you do change your rear main keep me informed on how well the job went and any problems you had. I have heard some positive things and some nightmares about changing it. Thanx
