 Hi, am ready to buttom up the lower end of 340 and wanted to know if you men have any advise on oil pump preparation? One old timer told me to pack it with vaseline petrolium jelly. My son in law (a chevy man) said just fill it with oil. It appears half of the oil will run out when I rotate the engine over on the stand anyway. What do you think? Thanks Walt ( It is new with a high pressure spring) :angry4:

I'd fill it with oil. I am a little suspect of having grease pumped thru the system before oil gets to the bearings. The main idea is to have the oil in the pump to provide a means for the pump to seal itself so it can draw up the oil from the pan more easily. Certainly priming using a drill and primer shaft is a very good idea as well.
