your Lincolns could be had dirt cheap once the air suspension crapped on them. Cheap fix was to install crown vic springs in the rear...
 
I have been looking at late model Stang ads. On FB Marketplace, you see a car and price. Little to no info. On the FB Stang groups, cars for sale usually have lots of info. I figure in general the difference between honest hobby type sellers and whatever Seems 99 of them have had "tuner" stuff and parts added out the ***. Maybea car advertisd at say $9000 that had $10,000 worth of mods is a good deal! ha You seldom see an adult unmodified car.
I see lots of Stangs that have had a new engine added at just over 100,000 mi. Talking of v8 cars. Not good. Abuse? Probably.
I see Stangs where the maybe "young" owner tried, for example, a cam swap etc, and had major issues. I see a lot of young guys dong mods with no mechanical clue. Hum!!???
 
This is a newer one made to look like a 69 Mach1. They have almost the same specs as a 69. That’s one reason I bought the 06. I’ve had a half dozen 4.6 motors. Presently I have one in my
F150 with over 200k.

Yeah I picked up my 86, in 2010, and my personal stipulation was that it had to be stock unmodified. car still has smog pump on it LOL! There are things unique to the 86 that I dont prefer, but it runs good. Its really only a 15 second car the way it is but still a fun street car.

This was an unmodded adult owned Mustang. I have added a Strut tower brace which did help. I’m going to upgrade the brakes this winter. They actually ride pretty well for what they are. Fairly easy to get in and out of. Don’t drag on every little bump. Pay a little extra for a low mileage well taken care one. Enough power for a cruiser in stock form and runs on regular unleaded.

IMO: Stang is an easy choice but I think they are hard to get "stock". Most I see are modded and therefore questionable or beat to death.

I will also vote for the Pontiac G8/GTO. Pretty rare and likely not modded, driven by sane people and fast and fun. These are hard to find and usually loved by their owners.

^^^ I agree I will look for adult owned, unmodified and reasonably lower mileage.
Glad to here you have had good luck with those 4.6 engines.
Me too, the 06 era looks like the 69 Mach 1 and that resto look brings me to that.
I remember going to a really small town car show back in Mo and a guy had that 06 Stang. It was just off the lot and yes he had it at that show! I admired its resto look and asked him what if weighed, as it looked sorta "heavy". I forget what he said it weighed, but he agreed it was pretty heavy. I bet the late model Challenger and Camaros are heavy too!!
 
I may have already posted this, but keep in mind you cant mod the 4.6 much as a home or do it yourselfer mechanic. A cold air intake, cams, and larger throttle body and exhaust is about it after that you are itno computer tuning ,supercharging and NOS etc. Things that IMO cost monety nd you have to know wat you are doing. I know a guy personally that attempted to put cams in a 2001 and he had a "tick" noise. I told him" wait for the lifters to pump up" ( I know wrong terminology) he said "it doesnt have lifters, I said "it has hydraulic lash ajusters of some sort.." they ar e called folowers. Anyway short version that car has ben sitting for ten years it seems, he hast felt like touching it ever since. And ths is because he hthought he knew what he was doing ,had t wrench on it etc. Thay are also interference engines, if you screw up the timing chain by one tooth the valves hit the pistons.
 
The GTO's were 2dr and smoother front end for sure, but add 10K to that still...
 
We do quite bit of running around and I really get tired of driving her LITTLE Toyota pickup, and makes no sense to going in the '95 1. T. Cummins! Yes that turbo v6 in that Toyota runs like a striped *** ape when I put my foot in it, cramped little bastard! Thus why I have the itch for a late model"fun"er ride.
If her R/E business does not pick up, we won't need to go anywhere except the grocery and feed stores!! lol That would be OK too, I still have m old Mopars for toys!!
 
Maybe I missed it, but haven't seen anyone mention an early T-Bird or Fairmont. The Thunderbird and Fairmont was fox based and I bet you could find a clean one with a V8 pretty easily. Pretty much another version of the Lincoln mentioned earlier. Being fox based, they should take a bunch of Mustang parts.

Another option might be the next generation of Thunderbird. They even had an Super Coupe version with an SC V6 and a 5 speed (I think).

Really can't think of anything beyond those outside of what has been mentioned already.

I've thought about this myself, more because I like to drive but I'm too poor to buy whatever I want. So I'm always looking for ideas for drivers that I could get into without the mark up for badges like SS, GT, SRT or R/T.
 
To clarify, a V8 T-Bird shouldn't be that hard, but I doubt you will find a V8 Fairmont. I guess I kind of lumped those two together.
 
Those Crown Vic Sports were nice cruisers with bucket seats and console. The Marauders were really nice too.

Pontiac can always do better than they do in styling. Way too much plastic body mouldings stuck on, and lame non functional ducts and grills. They look like Mr Potato heads based on a Chevy "head". My uncle had a Pontiac saying " Poor ol' numbskull thinks its a Cadillac" but that was in their more independent years....
