old rings

Re-using old rings?
A waste of time.
What is he? 80 years old?
My dad did stupid **** like that, and it never lasted.
Just to save a buck?
And then he's going to put some boost on it to boot?
Stupid.

I think there's a lot of big differences in peoples' opinions of what is "bad", what is "acceptable", and what is "right". I'm too lazy to do it twice. So I wouldn't, even on my own stuff.
Not to mention the combination of boost and worn low-tension oil rings with hyper pistons. You're better leaving it alone. With the amount of blowby, it won't make enough steam to butt the rings. Chances are it will detonate and a piston will crack first if it's pushed to actually try to make power.
All that being said - it's not our car. I'm not going so he's already ahead of me... Go have fun and report back how it does.

I 'm waiting, too.Shame Duster DJ ran out of time.

Yup, especially since I think he deserves at least some credit for Drag Week selling out so fast. He was the one who went to all the forums (FABO, Yellowbullet, and Moparts are the ones I know for sure) reminding everybody and giving updates to event news. I know I was like "oh crap I better hurry up and register" when I saw a couple of his posts. I know others did as well.

update! well it will never see the track this year!!!LOL he regaped the rings and reinstalled the pistons then on the last rod he streached a rod bolt beyond safty!! so i guess we will never know if the ring would have worked or not! he will do a good full rebuild once drag week is over. I guess he will go to watch!

Why not just get new bolts and resize just one rod

How cheap is he, lol

New rings are a must, rings wear out, duh. Maybe sometimes old rings will seal but gee, I rather have a new set of cheap rings..look on ebay

Why didn't he just leave it together and bolt on the turbo's? At 8 psi, he isn't going to need the extra end gap and if he biffs the tune, those factory pistons are gonna go just as quick as the cast ring. Sounds like he has no clue what he's doing.
