For the second time in as many months, BMW seems to be displaying a complete disregard and lack of consideration for its clients. This time, the carmaker will be naming and shaming drivers with expired warranties.

The campaign will be implemented in the UK only, for the time being, as part of a move to drive up warranty sales. BMW Financial Services and Allianz Partners UK have devised it, saying in a statement that drivers of BMWs lacking insurance will be called out in traffic for it by means of interactive billboards, Motoring Research reports.

The billboard signs will be using Vehicle Detection Technology, reading plates and running registration numbers to check if the BMW driver has a valid warranty. If that’s not the case, “highly personalized, real time content” will be shown on the screen, along with a message that the vehicle is not covered for the cost of repairs, so the driver should “consider purchasing a BMW Insured warranty online.

If this feels very Big Brother-like to you, fret not, you’re not the only one. To assuage privacy invasion claims

Pretty sure some European nations require you to carry repair insurance (aka a warranty).

if that's all they can find to shame me about, they didn't look very hard

i would like an M coupe though

Id like to 'see' that implemented....I'm calling BS on a billboard that says "Mr Jones in the M3 over there has no extended warranty...maybe he should get some..?" But you know what: an overhead freeway sign saying "Caution: uninsured motorist detected" would be F'n awesome! That thing would be going off all the time around here. Of course if your part of a protected class, lapse or lack of insurance or even valid registration is not grounds to impound vehicle....that would 'not be fair', "disproportionally impacting a segment of the community" I believe is the legal ACLU wording.

In England warranty they are talking about is compulsory insurance for injury to other drivers here in Australia we have a few different names for it due to us having motor licensing laws in each state but it means that if you are at fault for an accident that injures the other cars occupants the insurance covers their medical bills, and rehab etc, car repair insurance unfortunately is not compulsory so if you get totalled by a $1000 **** box and they are uninsured you or your insurance company are up for the cost, i always have insurance that way even if they hit my everyday driver that may only be worth $5000 the insurer can deal with the idiots

No license or insurance is getting more common these days. A driver hit and killed a woman the other day. They were charged with DIY, driving while under suspension, no insurance etc etc. Our justice system is too lenient on criminals.
We had a drunk driver kill 3 young children and their grandfather about 5 years ago. He was coming home from his stag and had his buddies in the private plane coming back from the Islands somewhere. He'd been charged several times with drunk driving. He took the van sideways at a high rate of speed. His family owns a huge construction company and are billionaires. Get this... he was found guilty and given a 10 yr sentence. The kicker is he is now out on parole. Less than 4 years after killing 4 people. Someone got bought for sure. Disgusting.

He should have gotten the death penalty for that

The way that article was worded it does not sound like liability. Does BMW even sell public liability?

I totally agree DIY but we don't have it here. Sometimes general population will take care of these people especially child molesters and rapists.
Yeah, but vigilantes isn't justice

The government is an institution which derived its power from God, and has the responsibility to put criminals to death (after they are found guilty, and if the crime warrants it)

If the general population decides to lynch someone without a trial, that's not justice, that's just another crime

When I said general population I mean in a prison. Maybe you weren't clear on that.
In would love to see the death sentence come back. It sure would deter some of these punks and make some of them think before committing a crime. Our young offenders act is a joke. Someone 16-17 years old can shoot and kill someone and basically get a slap on the wrist.

Ah, that general population

Yeah, I agree if your old enough to act and plan as an adult, you should be tried as one

As the Bible says...Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Ecclesiastes:8:11

Slaps on the wrist do not deter evil, they encourage it

I say if you do an adult crime you do adult time. Plain and simple.
Oh but the juvenile can be rehabilitated. And horses can fly as well. You might be able to save a few but generally they don't change.

We have had many cases where people who are diqualified from driving for various reasons still drink driving and trying to evade police, when being pulled over for random breath and drug testing by police, we do have a specific law that was enacted about 8 to 10 years ago that is called skys law (after a child that was killed by 1 of these retarded drivers) where lisence cancelled for ever and mandatory minimum 15 years, but with the leniancy of the court system they are usually out within 5 years and ready to do it again, our goals are over crowded and they are good in goal they get early parole, my personal opinion is no parole if you are sentenced to life you die on goal even if you contract a terminal illness you die in prison medical ward

About 3 years ago a joy riding punk ran a stop sign T boned my wife in an 2010 ford escort spun her car like a top. Put her in the opposite ditch. She called me first thing to say she was ok bumps and bruises. Punk was drunk no drivers license no plates no insurance. He was also an adult questionable (18 years
old). Just before the cops got there when the paramedics were checking my wife out. I was kind of standing around snarling. The punk asked me what I was so mad about. Good thing the cops happened to pull up because I probably would have spent some time in jail. Watched his court case cops threw the book at him close to $6000 fines lost driver’s license MPI (insurance Co) sued for replacement value of escort and still had to replace his own car. Wonder if he learned anything Dout it

I know you’re right. Zebras don’t change their stripes. The bad thing about it is like everything else the more you do it the better you get at it. Until catastrophic failure. Oh ya to the drunk drivers here’s your sign

I doubt if he did. Doesn't matter if they take his license and ban them from driving for life they'll do it anyway. They'd be a ton of people in jail if they had to serve time for the crime. Just the cost of someone bein gin jail for one year is staggering. But our system needs a major overhaul especially the Young Offenders Act. That's a joke!!

im not a big fan of imprisonment...unless you do it the way the Romans did
(the Romans only supplied the cell and the chains, if a prisoner wanted food or clothing, that was on his friends and family to provide)

but read your Bible, imprisonment is NOT one of the punishments for crimes God approves
