One of my best powder coating customers wanted a dirty old 1982 Chevy C10 truck jack powder coated. I told him that it would be better to clean it up really well and paint it. If I powder coated it, I would have to totally disassemble it (and it was riveted together), clean out all the 40 year old grease, media blast everything, powder coat everything and then reassemble it. I shot him a estimates for painting and for powder coating. The powder coating price was about 5 times higher than paint due to the amount of labor involved. A painted jack would have looked great, but he wanted it powder coated. I think it came out pretty good. I am retired and only want to do this part time, so this was more than I normally want to dig into. BTW, the bolts in the 2nd picture were just to hold it together temporarily while test fitting things.

Who are you and what have you done to Leanna?
Thanks. I have been powder coating for about 15 years, and I have gotten pretty good at it. I'm just a hobbiest who enjoys doing this. I'm Retired, and I do just enough to feed my car habit. Maybe 15 - 20 hours a week. And all of my customers are in Topeka. Leanna is the queen of powder coating, I am just a lowly minion. If she had done it, it probably would have looked better.

I found one of those in my dumpster and wondered what it was for.

Thanks.

What does it lift from? Looks awfully low.

What's the hook for?

That is great though

It sounds like you found something you enjoy, and got time to do, which allows you to fund something you enjoy

That great

I agree. It only raises up about 6", The hook looks worthless.

True. I do enjoy it, and it has funded my hobby (some would say addiction) for 15 years. When we go to car shows, sometimes the wives get to talking and the subject of how much the husband spends on the car comes up. My wife is always quick to point out that I fund everything myself.

Great job! I had a customer with a company which made powdercoated claypots for plants He expkained me that the stored humidity lowers the electric resistance....the reason why it worked.
