I wander if it is a sure grip and what gears were in these cars? I would take the 11 hr. ride for it I'm in. This would make a great sleeper . I wouldn't even paint it

On another note I actually purchased the Mopar production and option codes book, AKA Galen Govier "White Book" for 1975-80 in order to research this car.
I'm "underwhelmed" with this.
It doesn't even mention Valiants or Scamps. Only Dusters and Dart Sports
...and it doesn't list details for the A38 option, it says "see the 72-74 book".

It does look like an 8 now that I looked at it better.Don’t think it has 4:10 gears. I think that A32 could (should?) be an A38 code.
...and here's yet another extenuating circumstance or never say never...
Did they ever put a HP motor in a Valiant?
No... except a 1970 Valiant Duster 340, and a 76 Valiant 4D police car!
