Painted (vs. Vinyl) Roof Option

I have personally seen a 1969 & a 1970 Dart with a painted (from the factory) roof. The '69 was a B7 Blue roof over B5 Blue body. The '70 was ? Black roof over ? Orange body. Both of these cars have, what appears to be, the same chrome trim separating the roof/body just like a vinyl top car. How rare of an option is this? What other years was this available?

There is a '69 1/2 440 6 pack Super Bee Rally Green with a factory black painted roof in the Twin Cities. Cool car. I had a neighbor who ordered a 1970 Ford LTD with a black painted roof instead of vinyl. He liked the look without the upkeep. They didn't have the products available then to maintain them correctly.

In 1967 Dodge had a "White Hat Special" campaign part of their "Good Guys" advertisment. My Dart had a painted white top and some were Vinyl.Many options back then. I'm sure in the big book of sales order sheets you and you dealer just checked the right box for what ever you wanted. My Dart when I got it was from the original owner and had the stainless trim just like the vinyl tops.

In the early seventies my dad bought a 1966 Valiant Signet with a black painted roof, I always thought it was odd that it was painted instead of vinyl or body color.

There is a 69 dart around here in two-tone brown and gold from the factory.
It was on the cover of Mopar Muscle a couple of years ago.

I recently took the vinyl top off my duster and painted it black.. I am still on the fence about painting it the body color of the car when it gets a repaint and remove the vinyl top moldings.

My 69 GT came red with a black top. On my other 69 it came with a vinyl top. I will be painting it all one color and ditching the lower trim.
