I have a old polished intake (eldelbrock TR5) that doesn't look good and would like to paint it.Could I sand blast it then paint it (didn't know if sand was bad?)or is there a better way?
Thanks
Mike

Yup. Or you can just spray it down with wheel acid and let it sit if its not to bad. The wheel acid will etch the metal. Hose it off after a few minutes then prime and paint.

or powder coat it- its realy easy and you'll never have to worry about it coming off! gas, oil, and coolant resistant- no more stains. just something to think about- my $0.02 as they say :drinkers:

I glass-beaded mine and it looked ok, but there was some deep staining that wouldn't come off....but here is the "cast aluminum" engine paint you can get from Advance:

I wound up painting the dizzy body, WP housing and pump, and the motor plate so it would all be the same color and not look too fake. it is the 500-degree stuff (i THINK it's made by dupli-color...don't quote that), and I also used it on my control arms and spindles:
