Painting Engine Bay!

Well I have found out one thing and that is color sanding is not the most enjoyable task to take on. But that's ok.

I finally got the engine bay sanded with 1000 grit then 2000 and buffed out a section today. The first picture shows the 2000 grit sanding finished. You can compare the difference between sanded and fresh sprayed clear by the looking at the fender well and the body lip beside the transmission. The second pic is the fender well buffed out and the last is the final product.

I'm not done buffing yet but it won't be long until I will have it wrapped up I believe.

I'm glad I started this thread because it might help others later. Stimpy is already following my foot steps it seems and I'm glad I could help out. :-D

Got done buffing the engine bay thank goodness!

Cleaned up the line lock lines and prop valve.

Holy crap.....I just saw this thread. That engine bay has just inspired the snot out of me.....because I'm almost there! Thanks for the great documentation & pix.

haven't seen you post in awhile, captainkirk. good to see your still around. i miss your stories.

I always like a lot of pictures while someone is doing a complete restoration or something as resto of the engine bay. Gives me ideas and show me how to do it most of the time.

Oh and i think i must have been looking way back in the post with the heater motor comment, I just meant for painting... :toothy10:

I hate when people go through the trouble of painting the engine bay and leave the Brake booster in or the heater and wiper motor.....

Just a pet peave.... great looking car!! 8)

My engine bay is in the primer stage now, I was just gonna do a solid colr coat on The Duke, but your amazing post tells me to do otherwise! Just curious-did you just polish the lines and prop valve, or what? (The valve looks like it was re-plated.) Awesome craftsmanship, BTW!

Yes I polished the prop valve and lines. To bad you can't see the prop valve more often since it is beneath the car just about. LOL!

I got done polishing the long brake line that connects the right front to the brake system today.

Look at post #56 of this thread and that will show the process I use.

You had me out in my bastion sanding away at the unprimed spots on The Duke tonight.....first time in many moons. I hope you're proud of yourself. (You should be, actually!)

The motor fired to life today!!:cheers:

It sure sounds good to hear it run.

The picture just shows that it is in the engine bay safe and sound thank God!

I still have things to add etc... but it is alive! Throttle response is amazing!
