Painting instrument bezel

Has anyone hand painted around the letters on their instrument bezel? If so, what kind of paint did you use, and what kind of finish: flat or semi-gloss?

Did you also paint the rectangular outline with the chrome pen?

Anything that was chrome before I sprayed it, have used it on a number of dashes.
The smaller pens are easier to control, so start with the smallest, using the widest out of the gate can go south.

I've had good luck with a Krylon silver leafing pen. The chisel tip allows for wide or narrow work. It is readily available.
