So last week I saw a 64 Barracuda (in parts cars section) . Agreed with the owner to take parts off this weekend then he could scrap the car. Came Saturday morning, paid him, and started pulling. End of the day I said I'd have to pickup a couple of tools and would be back in the morning.

Went there this morning and his mother comes over and says she thinks I've taken enough parts and should leave. I respond that my deal with the son was I take what I can Saturday,Sunday and then he can scrap the car and start pulling parts.

The , Im assuming, stepfather comes out and says leave or I call the police. I said go ahead. A short time later a cop shows up and says I have to leave. I say I have a agreement with the car owner to pull parts. He replies that it's a civil matter and I have to leave or be charged with trespassing. So I left. Anyone deal with something similar. The son was not around this morning. He didn't give me a receipt but freely admits I paid to remove parts.

Thats a pretty shitty situation to have to be in, I think all three of them owe you a major apology at the very least, Id say a refund of what you paid him and finish taking what you want free of charge should be in order. Thats my 2c.

Surprised me. Especially since, I never spoke with them except to say Hi. they have no idea what I took, which I pointed out to them. Cop said right away it was going to be a civil matter.

If it's going to scrap anyway, what difference would it make how much you take off of it? Unless you're trying to remove full 1/4 panels or something, **** the price of scrap is not very high around here.

The son could easily straighten this out after a major kissing of your *** and apologizing for his failure to notify his parents of what was going on.

Sounds like a gentlemans agreement between you and the kid. If he says it's ok there shouldn't be a problem unless he made a deal with you and it wasn't his car. Nothing on paper you may just have to drop it.

Nothing on paper but they admit I paid to part it. I also have texts with the son to back it up.

That's good. You don't need to get arrested but it shouldn't end up in court either. Did you pay for parrs you didn't get?

Yes. I didn't have tools for some pieces yesterday. Steering wheel, fender, taillight. Also parts that were partially removed dash, trim.

If the mom and stepdad don't want you there, something is going on between them and the kid. You may be out for the rest of the parts unless you take them to small claims court. Ask yourself if that is worth it.

If the kid is a minor, or even if he's not and the property belongs to the parents, you may be out

Did you pay the kid after showing you proof of ownership in person or was it a online payment?

I bet it wasn’t even his car.

What did the son, the person you made the deal with, have to say? Let me guess? He was unavailable and couldn't be reached? BS

Next time buy the car and scrap it yourself.

I bet the kid bitched to his parents that you took too much but wouldn't say it to your face, so ma and pa are stepping in.

Sorry buddy-you lost. If you try to make a case out of it you will lose. Always two sides of the story and I’m not taking sides.
