Has anyone bought and installed a Passon performance 833 five speed yet? I am very interested in putting one in my Duster because with 3.73's and 14" tires i'm turning 4500 at 65mph. I was going to install a t-5 but when i saw that I could get a five speed without modifying the hump it looked real appealing.

The 5 speed is not out yet. Just talked to Mcleod their 5 speed is about 2 months away also.

I'm waiting for the Passon also. I have 4 23 splines, and one 18 spline but I'm waiting to see about the 5 speed first. Been waiting quite some time too.

Passon does have an overdrive gearset available for a standard A-833 case. That conversion changes the ratios around and makes 3rd 1:1 and 4th the overdrive. This gear set is around $1900 last time I looked. That's an option that I am leaning towards because its less than half the cost of his 5 speed and uses all the standard 4-speed parts just like a stock trans. And the ratios are adjusted to even out rpm drop between shifts.

I know thats not what you are asking about but I just wanted to throw that out there.

I have 5 23 splines in all, 2 overdrives, one of them is in pieces needing re assembly. I'm really looking forward to the 5 speed. I figure I can sell most of my 4 speeds to help with the cost of the Passon unit.

I spoke to him about a week ago. He also sounded aggravated. Said that if he could walk away from this he would but that he can't or will lose everything. It is worrysome that it has taken this long to bring this to market when he showed it almost a year ago. I'm thinking that it's a matter of being squeezed for capital to make it all happen. He did say that he had over a 100 folks signed up to get one. I'm one of them. Fortunately, I don't need it anytime soon so can afford to wait. But the longer this goes on the more worried I am that it will never happen. My other worry. If it does and I ever need parts will they be available. My thought is that if he does manage to get this thing on the street and it works as advertised that even if he goes under someone else will buy the right to it and market it. I hope that doesn't happen since he appears to be such a nice guy. I could go with the 833 I have but really want the overdrive.

Let me first squash any rumors. We are not going anywhere. The unit will be released. I am not gonna lie, it gets frustrating to have such a great amount of interest on a fantastic product and not be able to provide it to the customer. It has nothing to do with being squeezed for capital, it has to do with getting all the revisions ironed out and buttoned up to make production sized runs of parts to build the unit. I'm not sure that everyone out there realizes what is involved there. As for replacement parts if necessary, this will not be a problem as once initial production is fulfilled, parts will continue to flow to keep up with demand. I realize that everyone wants a release date, but i see no sense in lying to people. I am hoping to have things released here in a few months. We have unfortunately run into huge delays that were unforseen. Admittedly, we have not attempted a project of this magnitude before. It all depends on vendors. We cannot get the stuff made quicly enough unfortunately. Thank you to everyone who has hung in there for us.

I have e mailed Passon in regards to this on 11-15-11. I was told it will be released, but not for a little while. I am reluctant to say as I don't want to misquote him. For those who refuse to "cut" their torsion mount (like me) it will be worth the wait. If modifying the torsion mount is not a concern, then there are many alternatives.
It sure looks like nice product.

I will wait, I can use a 4 spd for now. I love the idea of not cutting my car up. Passon 5 gear it will be! Once it is released can we get an updated gearshifting smilie? hahahaha!

I've been involved in Mechanical Product Design since 1973 (still am) and I know exactly what you are going through to release a new product from ground zero. BTDT. Even did some industrial gearboxes back in the 70's for Eaton and another company. The concept to design to prototype to testing to revisions to vendor relations to more revisions to first article approval to more testing etc. can take a very long time. Anyone who thinks this is an easy process doesn't know how frustrating and difficult this can be. Lately I've been forced to deal with Asian vendors and it's even worse. A couple days ago there was talk on here about repop Duster Sharktooth grilles and someone referred to them as being stamped. Stamped? Right there he's showing his ignorance. It's obvious he doesn't know how large plastic parts are even made. :violent1:

So hang in there Jamie! I just hope nobody starts trashing you or the new 5 speed when it hits the market. :burnout:

................Jamie's tranny will be the greatest thing since sliced bread.......we will all be amazed at how truely good it is..........kim.........

Thanks to Jamie for clearing the air, I applaud you for even attempting something of this magnitude! One thing is for sure, it will be the single best improvement any of us clutch junkies can make to our car in my opinion.

FYI - I read a post recently on Moparts that Jamie is looking for a 63-66 a-body factory 4 speed car that is local to him to test fitment of the 5 speed. Maybe somebody here on FABO has one that he can use.

To Jamie from #48 on the list....
I wish, wish, wish more Vendors and people in general would be as direct.
"I'm going to deal with this right here right now"
On other fronts I have to deal with, smoke screens and mirrors abound.
"Look over here, no don't focus on the issue,oh gee, look at the time,I gotta run now, we'll talk later"
And the information just doesn't get exchanged because...well because....

Anyway. alzheimers is cool.Every day is new for me!
(I have a JOB? GREAT!!!)
THANKS JAMIE!!!!
Casey:D

I think that was a compliment sixgun? :D I hope... Anyway, I did find a 65 Dart original stick car that is about 3 miles from my shop. I will be in touch on here if it doesn't work out.
Thanks,
Jamie

Was just wondering, has any thought about the shifter been addressed yet, I have the hurst factory unit in my car, Are you going to have a 5-spd shifter for the trans, just my thought on the subject, thanks jamie for wanted to make it right chris the fuel guy

Chris,
The shifter and linkage is part of the transmission package. I need to know what year everything is though, so we can put the appropriate tower on it.
Thanks,
Jamie
