Petition to change seat-belt rule from 2 to 5 years.

One of the dumber rules the greedy management at nhra has made over the years.

11.50 is safe with 40+ year old factory belts, 11.49 with a 2 year old set of aftermarket belts is not? Dumb Dumb Dumb!

Signed and thanks for posting to point this out. Ive been putting off buying belts until the last thing so they don't expire before i'm ready.

Think that is bad. If you use Caterpillar Equipment they recommend you replace the seat belts every year from the factory. So the feds enforce it as a manufacture's recommendation and you have to do it or get a fine from the feds (MSHA), regardless of the use or conditions of the belt. You either pay Cat or MSHA.
 
Do you think NHRA really cares what you think, about that? It's all about money.
I had a pair of 4 year old race belts in my car, If tech gave me problems about them, I would hand them the OEM 1966 belts, and ask, which they would prefer in the car. Usually the race belts stayed in.
PS: If I am not mistaken, the 2 year replacement NHRA rule only applies if your car requires a roll bar. Then you are required a harness, and window net, also. This was implimented several years ago.

Correct...2 yr rule only applies if you have a roll bar...No net is required with a Roll Bar...Nets are required with a Roll Cage...

New news to me, thanks for the subtitle I didn't read.(never ran a bar,yet)
 
I gotta change out two set of belts.......going to wait until last minute....
