Photo request. 1966 dart manual transmission stuff

Hey guys, I recently picked up a 66 dart sedan with a slant six and three on the column. I was looking to put the shifter on the floor. Do any of you have a photo of what the shifter and the hump would look like? Finding all kinds of different stuff on the web.
This would be a non console shifter.
Also, I was curious about three speed floor shifters and linkage. Hens teeth?
Just trying to figure out what I'm in for when doing the switch. Parts availability, cost, rarity, etc. Maybe better to just go to a four speed?
Anyhow, thanks in advance for any help.

A 4 speed would be the way to go,With the 6 you;d want to use the 63-65 4 speed trans , bell , shifter , and floor hump .It's a bolt in with the right stuff with only a cut out in the floor under where the hump goes .I've done it a few times . The parts are out there and can be had pretty easily . I have this set up in my 65 Valiant station wagon .It had an automatic with a tired 225 when I started with it and now it's a 170 with a 4 speed and lots of fun to drive.
 
Yeah, no factory 3 speed floor shifters in '66.
That said, waaay back in the day I converted a '65 to a floor shift using a Hurst "Indy" 3spd conversion kit. Made my own small hump out of sheetmetal, didn't take much.
HATED it. Non-synchro first gear in those trannies takes a lot of the fun out of "rowing it yourself" in traffic.
Your decision, but I'd give serious consideration to hunting down a 4 gear, or at least a later model 3 spd ('70 & up?) made for a floor shift.
 
Hey thanks fellas. I appreciate the input. I was thinking the same thing. I had a 70 340 swinger a while back that was a factory 3-speed so I was wondering if the early a's had a floor shifted 3-speed.
I do agree that getting a four speed is the way to go. Does anyone make the hump? Do any of you guys have photo of the shifter itself? Can anyone tell me what year gear boxes will fit in the 66?
Anyway, I guess ive left you all with enough burning questions about my heap of a project. lol. I think im going to start collecting the parts as I drive it with the three on the tree. Ill put up a wanted ad for the four speed stuff.

You already have the pedals , flywheel ,z bar , so get a 65 A833 (the one with a flange on the back to tale the ball & trunion ) The shifter and the hump can come from a 63-65 same for the hump use a 65 iron 4 speed 6 cyl bell and a 10 inch clutch will bolt right on to your existing flywheel with that small 9 1/8th clutch that is there now .There is no new stuff for these and in 66 the 4 speed wasn't offered as an option (in the US anyway) for a 6 cylinder car so again 65 and down to 63 .You can use the later stuff from the 70's with the overdrive 4 speed but that is more complicated and expensive . For a driver the 65 set up is really nice and cheaper to do.This trans is not as sought after as the later ones and way less EXPENSIVE

Pre-66 humps will fit, but they have a round hole. 66 hump is a one-year-only deal. I have a 66 hump I can dig out and get pics of later today. If you need comparison shots, I have an 78 A833OD with shifter and rods, a 65 A833 4-speed that "I think" has shifter and rods somewhere, and a 72 A230 3-speed no shifter or rods, all sitting loose in the shop if you want photos of them.

But as of lately, I understand they do exist and many of you forum members have vehicles witht them. When someone mentions 4-speed slant, I get closer to the computer screen.

I have a 1965 valiant parts car with a complete 4 speed set up with a slant six. I would sell it if I didn't have to ship it.

A lot of A bodies from 63 -65 in the US came with the 6 cylinder 4 speed option. It is a good choice for what you want to do because it's what the factory actually offered and these transmissions even though they are just as strong are largely unwanted because of the flange for the ball and trunion drive shaft. this makes them hundreds of dollars cheaper .you're not building a 500 hp thing it's a slant and this A833 will do the job just fine.I've been driving with this set up since the late 70's in 4 different A bodies and never had any issues .It would be worth your while to get a hold of BarracudaJohn

He's a friend, I'm done worrying about the hoarding now I just quote him when I see 69 dart stuff for sale LOL... if you can't beat um join um...:thumbsup:..

You need to learn how to count. There are a total of six transmissions in the shop at the moment. :eek:
