My big winter project is to tear down my '74 Duster and repaint it. Well I've got a complete 4-Speed setup calling my name and it's getting stronger. So I figured, why ignore that voice in my head, the car will be apart anyway... So it's the perfect excuse to swap in the 4-Speed. Actually the car was already set up for a 4-Speed when I bought it years ago, but I swapped everything out for a 727/Slapstick combo

Currently I have a '69 A-Body Console with a '70 Challenger Slapstick Shifter & 727. Love the Center Console, want to keep it. Anybody know of which Pistol Grip Shifter Handles work in an A-Body with a Center Console? I seem to recall hearing about certain B-Body handles working (with the A-Body shifter/box & linkage)

I'm not worried about the Top Plate on my Center Console, I was going to remove it and make my own top plate from aluminum to match the shifter location. But I'm still stumped on which handle "locates" the best and feels natural to the car.

i think brewers sells the one you need. and i too, have modified the auto top plate to make a 4 speed console

Not a bad price either, I was expecting a Jaw-Dropper price tag :D

Those 4-Speed A-Body Top Plates are a Jaw Dropper though... I'm not modifying my Auto Top Plate though, I'll put that in storage for a future Project. I've got a nice big Aluminum Plate laying here that I cut a pair of "Power Wagon" Emblems out of for my Truck. It's the perfect size to cut and weld to make a 4-Speed Plate for my Center Console.

Figured I'd weld in some angled (up and toward the driver) aluminum Pods too for my gauges :glasses7:

The only piece I'm missing yet, is the Spring on the Clutch Pedal (and I see Brewers sells the spring)... I was 16 at the time, and like an idiot I cut that spring in half when I removed the clutch pedal & brake pedal to swap on an "auto" brake pedal.. :eek:ops: All the other 4-Speed stuff is still hanging under the dash or laying in the trunk of the car.

EDIT : I know everyone loves Car-****... So here's the 833 and Bell for the car, slapped with Black Hammerfinish (trans) and Silver-Blue Hammerfinish (Bell). Popped the side cover off for a looksy inside but the transmission looked immaculate, downright low mileage inside. So I deemed it worthy to run as is.

A Pre-71 (Non-Interlock) 833 & Bell. I still have to turn the Flywheel (surface rust) to put a nice finish on it. Figure I'll do that over the weekend. And replace the Output Shaft Seal, it's leaking (hence the nice big oil spots on the floor) Oh and polish/sand the input shaft too.

You may want to verify that this is for buckets AND console...it might be too high

That's a Pistol Grip setup for an Auto though.

Good point, anybody know off hand if it fits in an A-Body that has a console in it? It'd be an awful pricey "wall ornament" if it doesn't work for my particular application :eek:ops:

You need a 71-74 B & E Body console pistol grip handle. That is what my buddy used in his 68 Dart.

Doesn't say if it's for a Console or Non-Console car though, but it's the only one I saw listed for B & E Body.

Here's the interior of the car in question (yes that is an 8-track and fuzzy dice. lol)

There's just something different about keeping the Center Console with a Pistol Grip shifter, makes the car feel more "complete" (just my opinion/taste) Relocating the EQ & Center Speakers is no big deal if the Shifter interferes with them. They're not bolted down (didn't want to drill into my center console, so I used zip-ties instead).

I know the pic is for an auto, i thought you might take a flip thru the website...its pretty cool...here is the link for the 4 spd a body console shifter. You will need the bracket in the pics for it. Trust me, I have looked into it as I have a 4 spd console, and this is the route I am going.

My bad, when I clicked on the other link I assumed (you know what they say about assumptions, lol) that you thought I was staying Auto but wanted a Pistol grip. Didn't even think to browse the rest of the site.

I appreciate the clarification and the info about the Adapter/Bracket to offset the shifter too.

I am really looking forward to converting the car to 4-Speed, put some serious fun into the already fun car.

No sweat, the bracket is a little pricey, but I always wanted a pistol grip and is a must buy!! Pettybludart had someone do wood inlays on his pistolgrip and they are gorgeous!! Gonna get dad to do the same with mine when I get the grip.:burnout:

I know exactly what you mean about always wanting a Pistol Grip. It's like an icon/warning, it says "Strap In, Hang on & Shut Up" :burnout: Just like the 340 Stripes say "Beware the beast that sleeps within" :D

LOL I agree on both counts

So do my friends. My best friend and his brother stopped by one day (for me to take a look at a car) and he says to me "Show my brother your car!" So I popped the hood and his brother says "What's that mean?" (pointing to the 340 Pie Tin on the Air cleaner) my buddy says "Dude, that means "340% Whoop *** is contained within that car"

It also attracts bad attention too (people, you know the kind that don't respect stuff).

I was fueling up at the Wallet Killer and went inside to pay (ironically enough, the same friend is the manager at the gas station) and he says to me. "Dude you better get outside, somebody is getting in your car!" I turn around, and sure enough, some guy in his 40's has the door open on my Duster!

I pay and then run outside (long day, otherwise I would have hit him) When he asks about the car, I cooled off a bit, thinking he was a mopar nut too (although that didn't excuse the fact he opened my door) Until he started nit-picking about my car.

I don't try to pass my car off as anything it's not, its got parts from all kinds of A-Bodies and some E-Body too. But he's walking around the car telling me the Grille is for a '73 and not a '74 (Actually it is a '74 Grille, the original one for my car, only I blacked it out).. Then he tells me the Tail Lights are wrong, that '74s didn't have the Chrome Bezel around them, that they were mounted flush from the inside of the tail panel. I was pretty steamed by that point, got in my car and left.

Never had to lock my door at a gas station before (live in a small town). Always took the keys out of the ignition and put them in my pocket though. But after that I installed an Alarm in the car and started locking the door even if I'm only getting out of it for a second.

Hey 74dusted your inbox is full haha anyway.. I did a search for an e body slapstick in a duster and I found your duster.. Seems like I can't find anybody else that has done it.. I have a 70 duster with a console.. I got lucky and bought a slapstick with linkage and everything for $35 off of ebay.. I was wondering if the install was a simple bolt in and go or if it needed any customizations.. Looks like it'll bolt in with no problems but I would rather know before I start messing with it.. Thanks!
